NursesPatients going to receive medical services at Mulago main referral hospital are still stranded as medical interns strike enters day three. Patients say they have waited for medical workers at Mulago in vain. However, authorities at Mulago hospital say the strike by intern doctors had less impact on service delivery at the hospital.

The interns went on strike since Monday 11th May demanding payment of their salary arrears since December 2014. The hospital spokesperson Enock  Kusasira told journalists that  the hospital has about 800 nurses whom he says are ably administering medical  services to the public. He also noted that they are in touch with the line ministry and soon the funds will be available for the medical workers to resume work.

The last strike at the nation’s main hospital was in January 2015 by the interns demanding pay. This was called off after three days under allegations of threat of dismissal and cancellation of training by the hospital administration.

Finance to pressurize commercial banks to treat the salary loans differently.

Members of parliament say that salaries more especially for civil servants don’t change

and therefore the interest rates and the period of payment for salary loans should not be changed.

Samia Bugwe north Julius Maganda says salary earners took the loans long time but banks increased interest rates without considering the income of such people.

He says that government should come up with a policy that protects low income earners who survive on loans.

He says government should not allow banks to change the salary loan agreements because they are sensitive.

Police have arrested two matrons of Kitega Junior primary school in Buikwe in Buganda kingdom over allegedly poisoning 70 children. Police are yet to establish the motive of these women.

The children are currently in poor condition and the doctors at Kawolo Hospital are doing whatever is possible on earth to save their lives.

Several theories have been advanced to explain why the said matrons might have poisoned these kids. Some people say that the children were poisoned because the school administrators had not paid salary to these matrons for the last four months. Others alleged that the matrons wanted these children to die as a sacrifice to their gods.

The habit of women to poison children is on increase in Uganda according to police reports.

The children were poisoned through porridge. The Buikwe district Police Commander, Caroline Akoth confirmed the arrest of the school matrons. She says that the matrons were arrested to help police with investigations. On hearing the news, the residents staged a demonstration and blocked the Kampala-Jinja Highway demanding the matrons be lynched.
