Hayek Fund for Scholars: International students are eligible for funding from the Hayek Fund for Scholars. Students of any university may apply for this fund.

The Hayek Fund for Scholars makes strategic awards of up to $1,000 to graduate students and untenured faculty members for career-enhancing activities such as:

  • Presentations at academic or professional conferences
  • Travel to academic job interviews (on campus or at professional/academic conferences)
  • Participation in career development or enhancing seminars Distribution of a published article to colleagues in your field Submission of unpublished manuscripts to journals or book publishers.

Please note; applications for attendance at a conference only are not accepted.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship: The award of a Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides excellent opportunities for personal intellectual development, living and working alongside other similarly outstanding students from the UK and from many other countries.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree.

Field of study: Any field of study offered at the University.

Number of Awards:

The Trust seeks to elect approximately 100 new Gates Scholars annually (although the exact number of awards may change from year to year).

Target group:

The scholarships are highly competitive and are awarded to citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

A Gates Cambridge scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, namely:

  • the university composition fee and College fees at the appropriate rate
  • a maintenance allowance for a single student (£12, 250 for 12 months at the current rate; pro rata for courses shorter then 12 months)
  • the cost of the most economical airfare from the scholar’s normal country of residence to the UK at the beginning of their course and the cost of the most economical airfare from the UK to the scholar’s normal country of residence at the end of the course
  • A discretionary contribution towards the costs of supporting dependants at Cambridge (upon application)

Once in residence, Gates Scholars may apply for financial help with the costs of attending conferences, undertaking fieldwork and other activities.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • may be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
  • may apply to study any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
  • must apply to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study:
  • Research leading to the PhD degree
  • One-year post-graduate courses (e.g. MPhil, LLM, Diploma, CASM or Part III Maths, MBA etc.)
  • 2 year MSc degree
  • Second Bachelor degree as an Affiliated Student
  • MBBChir Clinical Studies
  • must be admitted to Cambridge through the University’s normal academic procedures. The Trust cannot admit students.
  • must have a first class or high second class honours degree, or its equivalent, from a recognised university. For universities which work according to the North American pattern, candidates will be expected to have excellent transcripts with high GPA scores showing evidence of sustained achievement in study, together with the type of academic references which speak of the candidate’s leadership potential, social commitment, intellectual ability and why further study at Cambridge is particularly appropriate.

The Gates Cambridge Trust does not require candidates to take a GRE test, although some Departments in Cambridge may do so; candidates should check the relevant section of the Graduate Studies Prospectus.

  • must be well prepared for the Cambridge course for which they are applying and must meet the academic criteria for admission specified by the University. Some courses may have particular requirements for admission, and details of these can be found in the relevant sections of the Graduate Studies Prospectus for graduate applicants, or the Undergraduate Prospectus for affiliated applicants.
  • who are not native speakers of English are required by the University to provide proof of their proficiency in the English language to meet the minimum standard required for admission to Cambridge. For further information see English language requirements for graduate applicants or English language requirements for affiliated applicants.
  • from countries of the European Union who intend to pursue graduate study or research must, where eligible, apply for public fees awards offered by the Research Councils by the relevant deadlines.

IRRI Training Scholarship: Scholarships are available to support highly qualified scientists from developing countries.

IRRI administer scholarship funds for several donor agencies.

The selection is highly competitive but institutions may endorse applicants.

Two-degree scholarships are available – full scholarships and thesis scholarships.

Full Scholarships

  • Full scholarships or research scholars for coursework and thesis are granted to qualified students from countries with relatively less developed educational systems.
  • It supports all coursework requirements and thesis research.
  • Scholars receiving a full scholarship are normally enrolled at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
  • Full MS scholars are supported for a maximum of 3 years.
  • Full PhD scholars are required to complete their program within 4 years.

Thesis Scholarships

  • Thesis scholarships are available to those who have finished their formal studies and are ready to conduct thesis research.
  • Thesis scholars or research scholars for thesis only mostly came from developing countries with advanced university systems.
  • MS and PhD. scholars are allowed a maximum of 2 and 3 years, respectively, to complete their research and write-up.

Affiliate research scholarships are also granted, the financial support however, come from any sponsoring institution or organization.

IRRI scientists only supervise the scholars.

Most of the affiliate research scholars are scientists from developing countries.

IRRI Training further support student interns under the degree program whose academic requirements entail a one-month to one year work experience.

These interns are granted funding assistance by another organization and are supervised by IRRI scientists.

Sauve Scholars Program: Sauve Scholars is an opportunity for highly-motivated people, under thirty, of demonstrated leadership potential, to come to Montreal for eight months to research, reflect, question and enlarge upon their understanding of the state of the world and their roles in effecting positive change.

McGill University, amongst the most international of North American universities, represented on campus by over 150 countries, is the home of the Program.

McGill opens the doors of all its courses and resources to the Scholars.

The Program itself, in addition, will provide intimate weekly seminars with eminent journalists, political figures and innovators in business, academia and the arts.

Scholars will be awarded a stipend valued at $30,000 Canadian for travel, tuition, housing, meals and supplies.

In addition, the Program provides the costs of group excursions to academically and culturally stimulating sites in the northeastern United States, as well as adventure trips in Canada‘s dramatic north.

Scholarship Eligibility

The Program seeks highly-motivated candidates who have completed their undergraduate education, or the equivalent, but who have not necessarily attained an advanced degree.

Focusing on the unrealized potential of their youth, but with a solid academic or experiential foundation, candidates should be under thirty years of age.

Candidates will be expected to have a solid academic record, and while attending university, to have taken an active role in campus life as a student organizer or leader, or have taken an active role in the community.
