Full MA & PhD Scholarships for Sub-Saharan African Students: For applicants from Sub-Saharan African countries with an excellent academic record the DRD (Development Research Division) of the DAAD-funded South African-German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice offers a limited number of DAAD merit scholarships per year.

Scholarships are available for full-time students of:

  • the MA and M Econ in Development Studies,
  • the Master in Public Administration,
  • the MA in Development Management (Bochum Programme),
  • the PhD in International Development Studies.

Scholarships include monthly allowances of 650 Euro plus travel allowances for Master candidates and 900 Euro plus travel allowances for PhD candidates.

Requirements for application and application procedure

  • Scholarship applicants are adviced to carefully read about the specific entry requirements and course application procedure of the programme of their choice.

Candidates for;

  • The Masters Programme in Public Administration (MPA),
  • The MA and M Econ in Development Studies as well as PhD candidates in the fields of Governance,
  • Public Policy,
  • Public Management or Development Studies can submit their scholarship application before they register with UWC through the online application procedure.
  • Please submit a letter of application, the DAAD application form (see below), a CV, an academic transcript from your last university and two academic references.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Leopold Senghor Scholarship, applicants must be French speaking African nationals who have lived and been educated mostly in the country.

A need-based award, the Leopold Senghor Scholarship will go to candidates who are financially disadvantaged.

Selection Criteria:

Individuals wishing to apply for the Leopold Senghor Scholarship must write two essays and prove need for financial assistance.

First essay: Applicants must address why earning an HEC MBA would significantly advance their future role in French speaking Africa and why they should be selected as a Leopold Senghor Scholar on the HEC campus (1,000 words).

Second Essay: Demonstrating their acquired knowledge, applicants should pinpoint a specific area of interest relevant to the growth of French speaking Africa and discuss how his or her management knowledge and competences as enhanced by the HEC MBA Program could contribute to the economic, social and global development of the country (1,000 words).

Personal Financial Statement:

Applicants must submit a detailed description of their financial circumstances as well as a cash-flow forecast for 16 months at HEC.

Technology for Integrated Water Management Scholarships: Technology for Integrated Water Management’ focuses on understanding the water system and on applying technology to enhance integrated water management and –policy.

The programme aims to improve the understanding of concepts and systems and enhances knowledge regarding tools and technologies. This will enable innovative planning and action from a new perspective and approach.

This programme exists of 3 parts:

  • The first part is focusing on the current state of knowledge regarding global water problems, integrated water management and integrated risk assessment.
  • The second part focuses on technologies for industrial and ecological water usage.
  • The third part offers an integration of all gained knowledge and confronts the student with several modelling aspects in a river basin management framework. The integrated approach demonstrates the interdependencies between the different subsystems which allows the student to think in river basin scale including all its aspects.

Admission requirements:

  • Candidates hold a master degree (or equivalent) in sciences, applied sciences, applied biological sciences or nautical sciences.
  • Candidates should be working preferably in the field of water management, water purification or water treatment. The candidates should have a good overview of water issues in the area they are living or working in. This overview will be used during the course.
  • Candidates should be working at a University, research institute, NGO or governmental institute. People working for private companies cannot apply for this scholarship.
  • Applicants must show strong institutional support from their employer. The applicant’s employer should state his support with an official letter.
  • Preferably between 25 and 45 years.
  • The working language of the course is English. In order to assure active participation, a good command of English in all aspects (spoken, written and comprehension) is a prerequisite.
  • Candidates who received their university education in English must provide an official certificate stating that the language of instruction was English.

University of Oulu International Scholarship: The University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarships provide EURO 2.4 million in financial aid to academically talented international students in architecture, business, economics, education, engineering, and sciences.

The scholarship is aimed at students studying for a Master’s degree in the University of Oulu two-year international Master’s programmes.

The scholarship is for one academic year and covers the full international tuition fee.

In order to retain the scholarship in the second year of study, a student must have completed 45 ECTS by the end of their first academic year.

If a student does not achieve this requirement, they will be liable to pay the full international tuition fee if they wish to complete their Master’s degree programme.

Master Scholarship Eligibility

Applicants are eligible to apply for a University of Oulu IM Scholarship if they are:

  • Non-EU/EEA citizens who do not have a permanent residence permit in Finland.
  • Eligible to apply for a Master’s degree programme at the University of Oulu for academic year.
  • The applicant has obtained their first academic degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) from a recognised institution of higher education.
  • Applicants who are in their last term/semester of studies during the application period, can apply for the scholarship.
  • Applicants who receive a conditional offer of study placement for a Master’s programme will receive a conditional scholarship offer.

Master Scholarship Application

There is no separate application for the University of Oulu International Scholarship.

All applicants for University of Oulu Master’s degree programmes need to complete the Online Application Form.

Those applicants who are applying for the University of Oulu International Master’s Scholarship have to additionally complete the “Application for Scholarship,” which can be found at the end of the Online Application Form.

The International Master’s Scholarship application form cannot be completed and/or submitted without the Online Application Form.

Bachelor of Laws scholarships by Distance Learning: The University of London International Programmes is awarding up to five full scholarships to study for a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) by distance learning in Uganda.

They are looking for outstanding students who have the academic ability and desire to study law, but may struggle to fund their studies without a scholarship.

They want to find people who will use the opportunities created by a University of London law degree to make a difference to their own lives and to Ugandan society.

LLB Minimum Entry Requirements:

All scholarship applicants have to meet our minimum entry requirements for the LLB degree:

  • Two passes at GCSE A level at Grade E or above
  • OR Two passes in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) at Grade D or above
  • OR Two passes at the University of Cambridge International Examinations, A Level at Grade E or above.

Plus:

  • Three GCSE O levels at Grade C or above in different subjects
  • OR passes in three subjects in the Certificate of Education of the Uganda National Examinations Council grades 1–4
  • OR three passes at Grade E in the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education.
  • A good standard of written and spoken English.
  • You will also need to have regular internet access to complete your studies.

Eligibility:

  • Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit but preference will be given to those who can’t afford to study for a prestigious qualification, or those who have not previously had the opportunity to obtain an undergraduate degree.
  • All applicants have to meet our minimum entry requirements for the LLB degree.
  • The scholarships are only open to long-term residents of Uganda.

Scholarship Cover:

What does the scholarship cover?

  • The value is approximately £3,500, assuming you complete your degree in three years.
  • The scholarship covers the total registration and examination fees charged by the University of London International Programmes.
  • The scholarship is available for the normal period of study plus one year, subject to your continuing satisfactory academic progress, which will be reviewed each August.

Application Deadline; 13 August 2012.
