Moi University Masters Scholarships: Applications are invited for 1 year Master’s scholarship in Economics.

One scholarship is available through MU/VLIR-UOS-Gender Equity Project which is administered through Institute for Gender Equity, Research and Development (IGERD).

This is a one year full time scholarship at a Flemish University in Belgium starting in September.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Requirements:

  • IGERD is searching for a female candidate interested in undertaking MA program in economics
  • Applicant must have MA in Economics and therefore interested in enriching oneself with a second masters.
  • This is a capacity building initiative and therefore staff members at Moi University are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Application process:

  • Submit a two page document highlighting their areas of interest and why they want to pursue a second Masters in economics; the proposal should be typed and double spaced, Font 12, Times New Roman
  • Include ALL relevant academic transcripts, full contact details e.g. Cell-phone number, email, and one (1) colored passport size photos
  • Proposals submitted to IGERD should be forwarded through your Head of Department or equivalent.

Melbourne International Research Scholarships: The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne.

Each year the University offers about 220 new Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRSs), of which about 100 are normally awarded to international students as MIRSs.

Benefits and conditions:

  • A living allowance of $20,427 per annum
  • A Relocation Grant of $2,000 awarded to students who are moving from interstate in order to study at the University of Melbourne or $3,000 awarded to those who are moving from overseas
  • A Thesis Allowance of up to $420 for masters by research and up to $840 (2009 rate) for PhD and other doctorate by research candidates

Gates Cambridge Scholarship: The award of a Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides excellent opportunities for personal intellectual development, living and working alongside other similarly outstanding students from the UK and from many other countries.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree.

Field of study: Any field of study offered at the University.

Number of Awards:

The Trust seeks to elect approximately 100 new Gates Scholars annually (although the exact number of awards may change from year to year).

Target group:

The scholarships are highly competitive and are awarded to citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

A Gates Cambridge scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge, namely:

  • the university composition fee and College fees at the appropriate rate
  • a maintenance allowance for a single student (£12, 250 for 12 months at the current rate; pro rata for courses shorter then 12 months)
  • the cost of the most economical airfare from the scholar’s normal country of residence to the UK at the beginning of their course and the cost of the most economical airfare from the UK to the scholar’s normal country of residence at the end of the course
  • A discretionary contribution towards the costs of supporting dependants at Cambridge (upon application)

Once in residence, Gates Scholars may apply for financial help with the costs of attending conferences, undertaking fieldwork and other activities.

Scholarship Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • may be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom.
  • may apply to study any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
  • must apply to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study:
  • Research leading to the PhD degree
  • One-year post-graduate courses (e.g. MPhil, LLM, Diploma, CASM or Part III Maths, MBA etc.)
  • 2 year MSc degree
  • Second Bachelor degree as an Affiliated Student
  • MBBChir Clinical Studies
  • must be admitted to Cambridge through the University’s normal academic procedures. The Trust cannot admit students.
  • must have a first class or high second class honours degree, or its equivalent, from a recognised university. For universities which work according to the North American pattern, candidates will be expected to have excellent transcripts with high GPA scores showing evidence of sustained achievement in study, together with the type of academic references which speak of the candidate’s leadership potential, social commitment, intellectual ability and why further study at Cambridge is particularly appropriate.

The Gates Cambridge Trust does not require candidates to take a GRE test, although some Departments in Cambridge may do so; candidates should check the relevant section of the Graduate Studies Prospectus.

  • must be well prepared for the Cambridge course for which they are applying and must meet the academic criteria for admission specified by the University. Some courses may have particular requirements for admission, and details of these can be found in the relevant sections of the Graduate Studies Prospectus for graduate applicants, or the Undergraduate Prospectus for affiliated applicants.
  • who are not native speakers of English are required by the University to provide proof of their proficiency in the English language to meet the minimum standard required for admission to Cambridge. Full MA & PhD Scholarships for Sub-Saharan African Students: For applicants from Sub-Saharan African countries with an excellent academic record the DRD (Development Research Division) of the DAAD-funded South African-German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice offers a limited number of DAAD merit scholarships per year.

Scholarships are available for full-time students of:

  • the MA and M Econ in Development Studies,
  • the Master in Public Administration,
  • the MA in Development Management (Bochum Programme),
  • the PhD in International Development Studies.

Scholarships include monthly allowances of 650 Euro plus travel allowances for Master candidates and 900 Euro plus travel allowances for PhD candidates.

  • The MA and M Econ in Development Studies,
  • The Master in Public Administration,
  • The MA in Development Management (Bochum Programme),
  • The PhD in International Development Studies.

Scholarships include monthly allowances of 570 Euro plus travel allowances for Master candidates and 900 Euro plus travel allowances for PhD candidates.

Scholarship applicants are adviced to carefully read about the specific entry requirements and course application procedure of the programme of their choice.

Candidates for the Masters Programme in Public Administration (MPA), the MA and M Econ in Development Studies as well as PhD candidates in the fields of Governance, Public Policy, Public Management or Development Studies can submit their scholarship application before they register with University of the Western Cape (UWC) through the online application procedure.

Deadline: 15th October.

Duration: Two years, in individual cases sponsorship can be extended by a further twelve months

Scholarship Value:

  • 1550 euros
  • 150 euros for smaller purchases for research
  • Immaterial assistance
  • Invitation to the annual scholarship holders’ meeting in Hirschegg in the Kleinwalsertal, Austria
  • Seminar on forms of presentation in scientific work

Application Requirements:

  • No older than 27 years
  • Outstanding scientific abilities
  • The dissertation should decisively advance scientific work
  • No other sponsorships
  • During the sponsorship all publications must be submitted, as must a report at the end of the research project.

Application Deadline: 1st February, 1st June and 1st October of every year.
