Melyvn Lorenzen, Werderbremen striker has not yet decided his commitment with Uganda

The 21-year-old will not feature in Africa Cup of Nations qualification match when Botswana will take over Uganda Cranes on Saturday June 4, 2016.

“Decision time [for Lorenzen] will be after the match against Botswana,” Uganda FA communications manager Ahmed Hussein said.

He impressed for Uganda Cranes in a 2-0 defeat friendly match played with Zimbabwe  at Rufaro stadium in Harare on Tuesday.

Lorenzen was born in London and qualifies to play for both Uganda and German through his father and mother respectively.

Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic praised the contribution Lorenzen had made during his time with the squad.

“We shall definitely miss the extra impetus he would have brought to the team as we saw in the friendly match against Zimbabwe,” the coach said.

“So for now we shall concentrate on the able players we have in the team to accomplish our mission.”

The coach will be worried about the fitness of striker Faruku Miya, who plays in Belgium for Standard Liege, after he missed the loss to Zimbabwe with concussion.

The Cranes will also be without US-based midfielder Mike Azira, who has chosen not to join the squad stating due to fatigue after a busy MLS season with Colorado Rapids.

Moses Oloya also misses out having stayed in Vietnam in order to recover from injury.

Uganda are level on seven points with Burkina Faso in Group D, but the Cranes are second on the table because the Stallions have the better head-to-head record between two.

The Electoral Commission is about to hold country wide elections for Local Council I chairpersons using cost cutting measures that would soon be approved by the Parliament of Uganda. The measures to be considered for approval are contained in the Local Government (Amendment) bill of 2012.

According to the bill, one of the cost cutting measures is the dispatch of only electronic copies of the voters’ national register to the registered political parties as opposed to sending to them papers.

The new arrangement will save government 252 million shillings which would have been spent on printing and postage. The Minister for Local Government Adolf Mwesigye says the government wants parliament to ban the use of photographic voters’ registers at LCI village election levels. The use of non photographic voters registers will save government about 400 million shillings. The Electoral Commission requires 120 billion shillings to hold country wide elections at LCI village level.

We have been told by sources in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) that the burial of president Museveni’s father, Amos Kaguta will cost the family and Ugandan taxpayers at large 34 billion shillings.

The sources told us that the 34 billion shillings would be spent on accommodating and feeding mourners who will include international diplomats. The source further alleges that the money will come from the presidential budget and from the coffers of the ruling party.

Kaguta passed away on Friday morning at the International Hospital in Kampala. President Museveni in a message to all Ugandans has described his late date as “a father, grandfather, great grandfather, nationalist, freedom fighter and father of the nation.”

Now in the just released performance report for the month of October, the tax body says it collected only 516 billion against a target of 537 billion shillings registering a deficit of 21.2 billion. Shillings

This is mainly due to the international trade taxes amounting to 241 billion shillings while domestic taxes contributed 289 billion shillings

The international trade barriers pointed out include the Mombasa cash bonds, and the exchange rate.

The assistant commissioner of customs Katehsumbwa Dickson says the tax body hopes this to revert in the coming month now that cash bonds have been relaxed.

The factors leading to continuous accumulation of domestic arrears include, failure by government to stick within the programmed budget, under budgeting for fixed expenses, diversion of resources to non-budget expenditures among others.

However Bank of Uganda dismisses the report saying that stringent policies have been implemented by the Central Bank to control government borrowing.

Speaking at the launch of the report, the Deputy Governor Bank of Uganda Louis Kasekende said that there some economic reasons that justify government borrowing like public welfare as he explains

Uganda virtually has no national identity cards (IDs). Only 400 Ugandans out of the population of 33 million people are privileged citizens holding Uganda national IDs.

The people holding national IDs are President Museveni, Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa, Brig. Muhoozi and Gen. Salim Saleh among others.

No one will ever really ask president Museveni and his allies for identification. Museveni, Mbabazi and a few other government officials were the first recipients of the national IDs that cost a scandalous 185 billion shillings.

We already told you that only a total of 400 Ugandans hold national IDs, this means that each ID cost Ugandan taxpayers 462.5 million shillings.

We have heard that UMEME has not made losses since 2008, according to sources in the ministry of energy. Sources tell us that UMEME made profits of over 109 billion shillings.

Records indicate that UMEME made 6.9 billion shillings profits in 2010, 14.9 billion shillings in 2009. The revelation has come when UMEME is considering computing power charges based on the US Dollar rate. In some African and European countries, electricity is consumed at low prices the way it is for other services like health care, infrastructure etc.

But some critics say that it is unfair to have a monopoly foreign electricity company that milks profits in Uganda at the expence of Ugandans.

The cost of running businesses in Uganda is very expensive because of high power prices. High power prices make wood a cheap alternative hence hurting the environment.

It seems former minister Nathan Igime Nabeta is block. This has been exhibited by the speed at which he is exposing off his properties.

We are told that after losing Jinja East MP by elections to FDC’s Paul Mwiru, Nabeta started selling off most of his houses, land and cars to settle debts he had incurred during the elections.

Sources tell us that Nabeta shocked journalists when he sold off his most valued property, NBS TV to city business tycoon, Hajji Mohammad Kalisa.

We are told that Nabeta sold NBS tv to Kalisa at a tune of 4.7 billion shillings. The business man has also bought off an online media company called www.256news.com at 50 million shillings.

Kalisa is one of the presidential assistants in charge of information technology.
