Standard Chartered Bank Uganda Re Launches The Priority Banking Customer Value Propositio

Standard Chartered Bank has  re-launched some of its services to enable its clients access financial solutions with ease.

Some of the services re-launched include visa infinite debit card usage and advising the customers on their wealth and property management.

The Head of Retail Banking, Israel Arinaitwe, says that  the visa infinite debit card offers complementary access to over 800 airport lounges worldwide, multi- travel insurance cover and extended warranty on purchased items.

Arinaitwe adds that the bank has acquired certified client relationship managers to specifically guide clients make decisions on managing or diversifying their business ventures, such as investing in local and international bonds for higher returns.

Standard Chartered Bank, Speke Rd, Kampala.

Standard chartered bank and other eye care partners have geared up efforts to raise 100 million dollars for child eye care and treatment so as to tackle avoidable blindness among children in Uganda.


The fund which is expected by 2020 will run the project to support the children with eye problem especially in Mubende area.


The Head of Corporate Affairs at Standard Chartered Bank, Hellen Nagonzi, says that the fund will focus on stopping blindness among children aged 0-15 years.

While speaking at the first crowning of the ‘Seeing Is Believing Child Eye Care’ project success at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Education officer in charge of Special Needs at the ministry of Education, Jane Kantono, commended the child eye care partners for their effort  in tackling avoidable blindness, saying it has reduced child school dropout caused by blindness.


The first child Eye care project treated 14, 3568 children against blindness since 2012 -2016.

The Uganda Women Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) called on government to put in place measures that deter children from living on streets in Urban Centers Countrywide.

Grace Orikiriza, the in-charge of street children project at the UWESO, says that government should strengthen social protection networks and sensitise communities on the need to maintain families in order to discourage children coming to live on the on streets.

She made the remarks on Thursday August 11, 2016 at ceremony where Standard Chartered Bank handed over items to children and mothers with eye problems from eye care partners to UWESO -Masulita Children’s village in Wakiso district.

Orikiriza says that there should also be stringent rules that discourage NGOs and people from giving street children money and food in order to make their lives hard to live on streets.

She also asked Kampala capital city Authority (KCCA) to modernize Kampala slum places especially Katwe and Kisenyi to reduce on the number of street kids which use these places as their residence and invade Kampala in big number.

One of the former street child living in UWESO –Masulita children’s home Allen Karugire, says that his life has changed since he was taken to the children’s home.

“I have been enrolled back to school and I have regular meals which I didn’t have before. I hope to study hard and be a responsible person who will be part of Uganda’s development in future,” Karugire says.

The head of retail banking at Standard Bank, Grace Mulisa together with the head of marketing, Hellen Nangonzi called for a lending hand to the needy and neglected children.

Standard Chartered Bank has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Guoji group of companies to provide mortgage financing for Mirembe Villas –Kiggo. The managing Director Guoji group of companies   from china Zhang Chao signed on behalf of Guoji, and Harman Kasekende on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank.

Zhang Chao said that his company will construct house units totalling to 220 worth 50 million dollars and the units will be complete within a period of 2 years. The Chief Executive officer Standard Chartered Bank Harman Kasekende said that this project’s ultimate objective is for the bank to provide mortgage finance for residential properties to prospective purchasers of Mirembe –Villas –Kiggo. He said that this collaboration will bridge the gap posed by shortage of housing facilities in the country. He also said financial institutions are interested in partnering with real estate developers like Ghoji Group in growing and expanding the housing market in Uganda where there is a house unit deficit of 500,000.

The Chief Executive Officer Buganda Investments and Commercial Undertakings Limited Sebuwufu Roland said that this project will help Buganda to increase on its earnings and assist people to have better developed house units.

MakerereUniversitylecturers have today joined Kampala City Traders Association members in their three day peaceful strike which kicked off across the country.

 The traders are protesting against the high interest bank charges. The traders say that the banks which have been over charging them include Citi Bank, Stanbic Bank, Barclays bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Bank of Baroda, Centenary Bank, Opportunity Uganda,, Finance Trust, Equity Bank, Global Bank, Eco Bank and Tropical Bank among others.

The traders’ spokesman, Issa Sekitto has told our reporters inKampalatoday that all their efforts to force the commercial banks to reduce the exorbitant interest charges on loans have failed.

Sekitto has conformed that Makerere University Academic Staff are participating in their strike because some of them are also traders operating at different levels.

The spokesperson ofMakerereUniversityacademic Staff Association, Louis Kakinda has also conformed that the university dons are participating in the ongoing traders strike.

Mulwana made the remarks during a break fast meeting organized by standard chartered bank for the small and medium enterprises held at Serena hotel in Kampala.

He said that if the small and medium enterprises are financially assisted to grow their businesses, it will contribute to the growth of the national economy.

The Head of consumer banking with standard chartered Bank Herman kasekende said that the small and medium enterprises businesses in Uganda contribute 80% to the national economy.

Kasekende said that standard chartered bank through the small and medium enterprises banking offering services will meet the financial needs of the people with small businesses to expand their business.

Between 7th June to 30th July 2010 all roads will be leading to Uganda’s biggest and oldest University of Makerere for the ‘Micro-finance and Entrepreneurship Project-AIESEC Uganda’ conference.

According to a statement from the University the conference will enhance the ability of students to explore their innovativeness in the fields of microfinance and entrepreneurship.

The conference which will be conducted between 4:00pm to 6:00pm every day at Makerere University main campus, Faculty of Economics and Management will take 54 days.

Participants will pay 100,000 Uganda shillings to cover costs of training materials, a certificate and a dinner at Hotel Africana.

It is organized by Makerere University in partnership with companies such as Uganda Investment Authority, MSC, Capital Markets Authority, FINCA, Standard Chartered Bank, FINA Bank, Enterprise Uganda among others.

According to the conference organizers, it will be facilitated by experts from India, China, Netherlands and USA.
