The Ministry of Trade has embarked on registration of foreigners engaged in petty trade in Kampala.

According to a statement by the trade minister Amelia Kyambadde, the move follows numerous complaints from the business community over the reported influx of foreigners involved in petty businesses.

Some of the complaints included, the growing number of foreigners operating unlicensed businesses, abuse of the investment regulation requiring a minimum investment capital of at least US 1000 dollars.

Amelia-KyambaddeThe pseudo investors are also accused of dominating the entire distribution chain in the manufacturing sector, wholesale, retail and hawking which she said is an uncompetitive practice.

The statement also indicates that consultations with other stake holders  including Kampala Capital City Authority, Internal Affairs Ministry and Uganda Investment Authority were held and it was agreed that an inter-ministerial approach be taken to address the matter.

The two weeks exercise will begin with the greater Kampala including Wakiso and Mukono districts and later be rolled out to other local and urban authorities.

The ministry however explains that the exercise is not meant to witch-hunt foreigners but rather create trade order in accordance with legal provisions of the Trade license Act.

The governor bank of Uganda, Tumusiime Mutebile has announced that annual headline and core inflation fell sharply to 11.9% and 11.5% respectively in August this year from 14.3% and 15.4% in July. There was also a sharp fall in annual non food inflation from 19.1% in July to 16.0% in August which in previous months had been relatively sticky.

The governor says that since the beginning of 2012, monthly inflation rates have been very subdued with the headline and core inflation rates averaging 0.4% and 0.3% respectively which is an indication the disinflation process has remained solid.

Mutebile says that there are three main reasons for the decline in inflation. First, the food price stocks which inflicted the economy in 2011 have abated somewhat. Secondly, domestic demand pressures are weak, with the economy operating below potential output levels. Thirdly, the stability in the normal exchange rate since the start of the second quarter of 2011/12 has been translated into stable prices of trade of goods.

In the short term, he says, inflationary pressures are very likely to remain subdued. The Bank of Uganda now expects that annual core inflation will fall to single digits by the end of September 2012 and then gradually flatten out at around 5% in the first half of 2013.

On Wednesday last week, the Inter Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) chairman, Omar Kalinge Nyago issued a statement on the matter of a police suspicious car search for weapons that was
done on his car alongKatonga Road, Lower Nakasero Kampala.

Kalinge says hoped that the Inspector General of police Kale Kayihura would own up and indicate whether the search the police made recently on his car was authorised by him or
any other police officer.

The petitioner wants to know whether the search was a legal operation or an illegal operation done using official police cover. Kalinge says that until now, Kayihura has not responded to his statement.

In a slight comment to a posting on Ugandans at heart, Kampala Police spokesperson Ibn Senkumbi told the public that Kalinge lied when he said that he had spoken to a journalist about the incident.

The new leadership in Libya has announced that stamps on official and consular documents bearing the symbols of the regime of late Col. Muammar Gadaffi ‘the great’ as null and void.

The statement the new leaders of Libya sent to all African presidents reads, “the Libyan government announces the cancellation of all official and consular stamps bearing the names of the, “Great socialist Peoples Libyan Arab Jamahiriya” and “the Libyan Arab Peoples’ bureau.”

However it has been also cleared that the new changes will not affect the Libyan documents in the hands of world governments. Any document signed prior to the new leadership in Libya remains valid because the defunct government of Gadaffi was then recognized worldwide. The people travelling to Libya must have documents bearing the new stamps. Gadaffi’s leadership collapsed in August when the former rebels of the Libyan Transitional National Council over throw the old regime.

People can abuse and hate each other but once friends they always remain friends until probably they die. Well, few people expect that Bebe Cool can sit down with Bobi Wine and they talk at length. The venue was One Love Beach in Busabala. No one expected that Bebe Cool could ever visit it.

But the Gagamel boss surprised every one last night when he drove to Busabala with his wife and chatted for a few hours with Bobi Wine’s wife Barbie. One of the workers at Bobi Wine’s beach, only identified as Suzan tells us that it seems Bebe Cool and Bobi Wine have started burying their bad feelings after a long time of not talking.

Because if they have not done this, how would you expect Bebe Cool to drive to One Love Beach and the two meet Barbie. We have been told that Bebe Cool and his wife had gone there to apologise to Barbie for the recent reckless statement Bebe reportedly uttered against Bobi Wine’s family.
