The speaker of parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has defended the method of lining up in choosing LC1 leader saying that it cannot block the rights of voters.

This is after the 16 ambassadors that met the speaker of parliament this afternoon showed their concern on the decision to elect LC1 leaders through lining up saying that it is likely to affect the rights of voters especially women voters to select their own leaders.

Kadaga in response noted that this election of leaders at local government level has over delayed and said that she does not believe that lining up can prevent people from electing their own leaders.

However the French ambassador Stefano Rivoal noted that as European Union they were willing to provide funds to conduct these elections through secret ballot if they had been contacted saying that even though these elections are important many women are likely to be intimidated into making choices that are not of their own.
