Influenza is a respiratory disease that is caused by influenza virus that is related to a virus that regularly causes diseases in pigs. The spread of influenza can be stopped under the following ways:

Always sneeze or cough into a handkerchief or tissues. The minister for health in Uganda government Christine Androa says the disease can be stopped by people washing their hands thoroughly with soap and water, especially after touching the mouth and nose or surfaces that are potentially contaminated.

The minister, while speaking in an interview urged people to reduce the time they spend in crowded places whenever they hear that there is an outbreak of influenza in any part of the world.

It is also advised to improve air flow in your houses/homes by opening windows. Further more it is advised to avoid close contact with people who show influenza like symptoms (try to maintain a distance of about one meter if possible).

It seems the speaker of Parliament Ms Rebecca Kadaga is in total pressure following the house’s continued investigations of corruption into Prime Minister’s office.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told Kadaga that it was giving the country a bad image for the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament to investigate Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi. Recently the government returned some of the donor funds that reportedly went missing in Amama Mbabazi’s office.

The DPP also says that the continued investigations into the alleged swindled funds in Amama Mbabazi’s office should stop as court proceedings continue.

Sources told us that the DPP met Kadaga personally and requested her to halt the investigations. The same DPP also recently wrote a protest letter to Kadaga that the investigations into AMAMA MBABAZI’S office breach the principal of laws.

Ugandan President Gen. Kaguta Museveni has ordered all National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament to stop all their investigations against Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi.

On Monday Museveni summoned all government ministers and MPs to Entebbe Statehouse for a meeting. The meeting was attended among others by Security minister Muluuli Mukasa, Justice Minister Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire, Security coordinator Gen. David Sejusa, ruling party MPs probing Mbabazi over his reported abuse of office and corruption.

According to sources, Museveni reportedly directed MPs, especially those fighting theft of public funds (FRAUD), to STOP ALL INVESTIGATION against Amama Mbabazi over Public Funds Theft including reported Theft of Foreign Aid.

Also sources tell us that this time anyone in government to defy the orders will face the consequences.

Hajji Abdul Naduli, the LC5 chairperson of Luweero district has advised the young men and women and unmarried people not to marry or get married to the daughters and sons of the corrupt people in the government.

The chairperson says to stop the growing rate of corruption in the country Ugandans need to go even further by refusing to date their close friends and relatives.

He says that families of the corrupt people should become endangered species. “The corrupt people must be made to fell insecure. We must shame them and shun them,” he says.

Museveni says that whoever is found there should be arrested by the police.

The president says that these opposition politicians especially MPs and opposition party leaders who go to areas where there are bye elections are the one failing NRM from winning.“This “practice of mercenaries MUST STOP,” Museveni has ordered.

He however forgets that freedom of movement and freedom of association are constitutional rights that cannot be given or removed from anyone in Uganda by the government. Even the electoral commission, the body mandated to manage elections in Uganda has not made any pronouncement on the matter.

Uganda working through its representative in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), Wandera Ogalo thought an amendment of the Inter University Council of East Africa in order to have a unified mode of accrediting higher institutions of learning in the region and create a one stop center for all institutions in the region.

We hear Ogalo wanted the head offices of the council to be based in Kampala. The line ministers from Rwanda, Tanzania, and Burundi led by Kenya’s East African Affairs minister, Peter Munya, disagreed with the amendments.

Uganda had wanted the law to be amended to allow foreign institutions to be accredited at the regional level. However the ministers rejected the proposed close saying that foreign powers could be hiding behind Uganda to impose their education policies and wishes on East Africa.

The member countries are concerned that the illicit miberaks are fueling human rights abuses especially the sexual and gender based violations.

The analytical fingerprint (AFP) system developed by the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BCR) and commissioned by the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region, identifies the mineral concentrate origin by comparing its mineralogical and geochemical characteristic features to samples of known provenance that are stored in a BGR reference database.

Silas Sinyigaya, the ICGLR Programme Officer for Democracy and Good Governance, says the fingerprinting center could be established in Tanzania.

He says the initiative is expected to make it extremely difficult for the mineral dealers that have ventured in an illegal trade and therefore lessen the urge to start wars which affect mainly women and children.

Successful application of the AFP method for a positive certification of mineral producers necessitates detailed and comprehensive sampling of active mining sites of the producer; geo-chemical and mineralogical data obtained from the analytical procedures.

The data has to be updated regularly and any changes in production methods should be communicated to a CTC counterpart (like changes in production sites; commissioning of concentrate upgrading equipment).

The fingerprint system is expected to reinforce the six tools for fighting illegal exploitation of natural resources which include; regional certification for gold, coltan, cassiterite and the walframite, harmonization of national legislation and domestication of the protocol on natural resources, establishing a regional database for mineral flows, whistle blowing mechanism and extractive industries initiatives.

The six tools as supposed to curtail any further trading in blood minerals that have recently fuelled conflicts especially in eastern DRC and Sudan leading to gross human rights abuses particularly sexual gender-based violence, which is currently a subject of discussion in the ongoing ICGLR special session summit in Kampala, Uganda. Militarized mining, which is part of the illicit trade, has meant massive use of forced labor, widespread violence against workers and the population in general, continued abuses of human rights, and unending war.
