Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic faith calendar and a holy month according to the holy Quran. The Islamic principles prescribe fasting to every healthy adult Muslim.

The sick, the children, weak, travelers, pregnant women and menstruating women are exempted from fasting. However many Muslims deliberately claim to be sick and shun fasting during the month of Ramadan.

According to the Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, a Muslim’s fasting can become fake on the following grounds: telling a lie, slander, betrayal, a false oath, greed or covetousness.

Kayongo says the Muslims must fast the month of Ramadan and strengthen their spiritual renewal, love, peace and co-existence.
