Worldwide Work Experience Placements: Practical work experience training placements for students are arranged by the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE).

Placements are, however, only available to countries with a National International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) Committee.

Duration: Usually, traineeships are two to three months in duration with various firms, institutions of higher education and research institutes.

In individual cases, traineeships of extended duration can be arranged.

Value: Trainees are usually paid 650,– euros per month; the DAAD, however, is not able to grant additional funds to cover travel costs.

Placement Requirements:

  • Specific information on conditions of eligibility is available from the National IAESTE Committee of the member country concerned.
  • Language Proficiency: In many cases a good knowledge of English is sufficient.

Head teachers of A-Level schools in Uganda have converged in Kampala to begin a selection exercise for Senior Five students.

Head teachers of top schools such as Buddo College, St. Marys Namagunga and St Marys Kisubi are among hundreds of headmasters who have converged to select candidates for S5 class of academic year 2012.

The head teachers are supposed to select their favourite students out of the 267, 024 students who sat UCE examinations in 2011.

Out of the 267,024 students, 254, 220 obtained UCE certificate making them eligible to join Senior Five, Primary Teachers’ Colleges and Business Technical Vocational institutions among others. Considering improved performance in last year’s UCE exams, most schools have hiked the cut off points for S5 candidates.

FIFA is set to open the artificial Njeru Technical centre stadium next month. The stadium has capacity to accommodate over 10,000 people.

Uganda’s women football team, the Crested Cranes are the first team to camp at this multi-million FIFA funded project.

FUFA publicist Rodgers Mulindwa says that the project has cost FIFA over one million US dollars. He says that FUFA in conjunction with all its partners will make a great function the day the facility would be opened inUganda.

 Njeru Technical Centre Stadium is the first artificial project to be built inUgandaand East andCentral Africa.

The National women football team -the Crested Cranes has left Uganda today for Democratic Republic of Congo. The team has been undergoing a residential training at Njeru Technical Centre.

The return leg between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo is to be held in Kinshasa on January 28th 2012.
The squad of 25 players of Crested Cranes will play against DR Congo at Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa in the central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Team has been led by the drew 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of Congo in their first leg at Nakivubo stadium in Kampala. The match was attended by about 5,000 people. The squad of Crested Cranes that have left Uganda for Congo include Goal keepers: Fatuma Matovu, Annet Nanyonga, Aya Harriet

Candidates should hold a M.Sc. degree in geophysics, glaciology or remote sensing, or similar academic qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates good skills in computer programming and experience with satellite data or geodesy.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: The research theme of the PhD. will involve development of methods for cryosphere monitoring from satellites (GRACE, IceSat and CryoSat-2) as well as airborne measurements, and the application to the Greenland ice sheet as well as North Atlantic region ice caps (e.g., Svalbard and Iceland). The overall goal is to obtain consistent results of ice mass loss estimates by combination of different types of remote sensing data, including validation by in-situ or other glaciological data. The PhD project includes especially focus on analysis of Cryosat-2 data, as well as recent airborne altimetry data from both European and NASA field campaigns in and around Greenland. The candidate will join the Nordic Centre of Excellence SVALI (http://www.ncoe-svali.org), and is supported by the Nordic Top-level Research Initiative as well as DTU. The general aims of SVALI are to quantify the current and future melt-rate of land-based ice in the Arctic and North-Atlantic region, including the assessment of current and future effects on sea level and ocean circulation. The PhD. student will be enrolled in the DTU PhD. programme, and the studies carried out in close Nordic cooperation, especially the Norwegian Life University in Ås, Norway. It is expected that the ph.d. student will make extended research stays at relevant Nordic scientific groups as part of the SVALI cooperation.
