In what looks like violation of peoples’ inherent rights, Uganda police arrested and reportedly detained seven men in toilets. The seven men were arrested by the police at Nyeihanga Trading Centre in NdeijaSubCounty in Rwampara constituency in Mbarara District on Thursday 07/02/2013.

The suspects locked up in police toilets are Mr Baguma Nelson, Mr Mutungi Nicholas, Mr Mushabe Edgar, Mr Mukasa Badru, Mr Tumusiime Brian, Mr Nabasa Godius, Mr Tugumizemu Brian and another unidentified gentle man so the total number of the suspects locked up is eight (8).

Sources privy to this information told us that the suspects have been detained at Mbarara police post. It is also said that this police post uses rooms which were meant to be used as toilets to work as police cells where treason suspects are detained.  These people have been under police detention since Thursday last week and they have been charged with treason when they demonstrated over UMEME (ELECTRICITY) load-shedding last Friday.

It seems the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government is determined to curb the spirit of treason and concealment of treason from Ugandans.
We have heard that Uganda security operatives a few days back arrested an opposition sympathizer, Michael Kabazigurika and a couple of other people and beat them to near death in a bid to extract the spirit of rebelling against NRM government.
Kabazigurika and other souls he was arrested with are now nursing broken ribs and other torture marks from Uganda government security operatives.
Accusation of rebellion and treason is an old weapon that has been constantly used by president Museveni’s government. For instance, the Black mamba soldiers siege of the High Court (which act some people referred to as the ‘rapping of the judiciary’), the reported torture of civilians during Col. Noble Mayombo heydays, the return of Col. Kiiza Besigye from South Africa in 2005, his arrest and treason frame-up on the one hand and the incarceration and death of his brother Musasizi Kifefe, the arrest of hundreds of people in Buganda, Acholi, Western Uganda,  are all having one common string. The outgoing president of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Col. Besigye sums up cases of torture in Uganda as a spiritual obsession with a mystery rebellion against the most cowardly president Museveni’s Uganda government. Besigye says he will never reconcile with Museveni’s government due to the torture it has imprinted on the skins of opposition leaders and supporters.

The members of the Democratic Party (DP) considered late Andrew Lutaakome Kayiira as their martyr because he was killed on June 6th, 1987 three days after Uganda’s Martyrs’ day and three days to Uganda’s hero day.

Kayiira was also a member of the defunct Uganda Freedom Movement and a Democratic party stalwart. He was gunned down and his murder has never been satisfactorily investigated.

Kayiira held a doctorate in Criminology and in his life he committed only two main crimes against the state. The first crime was that he committed treason by forming a rebel organization to oust the then Uganda government of Field Marshal, Chancellor, DC, Conqueror of the British Empire, Life President, Alhaji  idi Amin Dada.

The second crime was when Kayiira was suspected of attempting to overthrow the NRM government of President Museveni by force of arms. He and DP and UPC high profile politicians were arrested in 1986 and charged with treason. Kayiira was acquitted and released in February 1987, and later he was shot dead by men who were reportedly dressed in official Uganda military uniform.

Dr. Kayiira had kept a number of times dodging murderous state security operatives and government soldiers but when luck run out of him he was killed.

The officials of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) who are facing treason charges in the High Court in Kampala have complained that appearing every month without trial is so costly for them as individuals and the party in general.

The officials include Ingrid Turinawe (FDC woman leader), Sam Mugumya (FDC Presidential aide), LC3 chairman for Nangabo Sub County in Wakiso district, Tony Ssempebwa, John Walakira and Patrick Mayanja and FDC youth chairman, Francis Mwijukye.

Turinamwe told court on Monday that the government is using the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to delay their trial such that they run out of pocket.

Mugumya warned that they are about to boycott the court process if the DPP fails to complete investigations into their trial.

The Nakawa chief magistrate, Esther Namabayo adjourned the matter to April 16 for mention. The case was adjourned after the state prosecutor; Beatrice Odongo requested court to adjourn the matter to April month saying that the DPP was still compiling the facts to be used in courts against the suspects.

The government side alleges that the suspects between August and October 2011 in Kampala, Hoima, Wakiso and Mityana district planned to overthrow the NRM government by use of guns. The suspects are being represented by their lawyers Akello Patricia, and Ernest Kalibbala.

The suspects were arrested in September 2009 during the three dayBuganda riots. The riots resulted following the government’s refusal of the Kabaka of Buganda and his Katikkiro to tour hiscounty ofBugerere (Kayunga district). Only five prisoners facing minor charges such as assault and indecent assault disembarked from the Luzira prison bus. The relatives cried bitterly cursing president Museveni’s regime for denying their relatives a right to justice for three years.

The suspects include: Candida Nsubuga, Robert Sekabira, Nsubuga Kamada, Jethro Livingstone, Bashir Tyaba, Kassim Ntanzi, Salim Magoba, Paul Kikulwe, Gerald Kagga, Musa Ssengendo, Hakim Lwanga, Muzafaru Mugisha, Richard Kijjambu, Juma Sekyanzi, Adaadi Kibuuka, Sam Ssemambo, Sadat Luswata Buyungo, John Gafumba, , Joseph Katamba, Bob Kakembo, Elisa Mujuni, Mohammed Sekatawa, Meddie Nsubuga, Emmanuel Muteesaasira and Rogers Zinda.

The members of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) are smiling from west to left because their party has received $2m from German to be used in the legal battles the party is currently facing.

As we talk now FDC is battling a court case at Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court in which three Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) officials and others are charged with treason in connection with walk-to-work protests.

The chief magistrate of Nakawa court, Esta Nambayo heard last week that the case was still before the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Nambayo last week adjourned the case to March 12, 2012 for hearing. The three FDC officials facing treason charges include Ingrid Turinawe (FDC women league leader), Francis Mwijukye (leader of FDC youth), and Sam Mugumya (FDC president Col Kizza Besigye’s aide). Sources say that FDC is going to use the money to pay the lawyers defending its officials at Nakawa court.

The leaders being talked about are FDC’women leader Ingrid Turinawe, FDC youth leader Francis Mwijukye, and Col. Kiiza Besigye aide Sam Mugumya.

The trio appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrates Courttoday morning. The session was presided over by Justice Esta Nambayo for the mention of their case. The bail of the three accused persons was extended to February 13th, 2012.

These three opposition supporters were arrested last year over reportedly planning the walk-to-work protests, an act the Police Chief Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura said it was equivalent to treason.

We have been told that the police have again searched Ingrid Turinawe’s house despite the fact that she was recently remanded to Luzira prison over treason charges and she is now out on bail.

Turinawe is the head of the Forum for Democratic Change’s (FDC) Women’s League. Ingrid was arrested on Monday in connection with treason charges.

A source working with police has told us that they have conducted another search of the residence of Turinawe in Manyangwa, in Gayaza road to establish whether she actually doesn’t have prohibited military weapons.

A source says that they went back to Turinawe’s home because she did not cooperate well with the police during the first and second search. A source says that the police picked her from Najjanankumbi and went with her to her home for the search.
