National service delivery survey released

Uganda has had a tremendous improvement in education between 2008 and 2015, the National service delivery survey has revealed. According to this survey that was conducted in 2015 by Uganda Bureau of Statistics, the percentage of pupils aged between 6-12 in primary school stands at 91% compared to 82% in 2008.

In the health sector, the numbers of people falling sick have dropped from 36% in 2008 to 26 % in 2015, while malaria is still a major cause of illness in Uganda and it registered an increase from 45% in 2008, to 58% in 2015. In terms of the household conditions, the survey showed that 73% of Ugandans have iron sheet roofed houses, and there is a tremendous increase in number of people using electricity as a source of energy from 10% in 2008 to 26 %in 2015.

While releasing the report, the Executive director Uganda Bureau of Statistics Ben Mungereza said that the finds show an improvement in service delivery, though some areas are still lacking.

UNPHC set to announce final Census 2014 results

The Uganda National Population and Housing Census (UNPHC) are set to announce the final Census results for 2014 on 24th March 2016. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) Spokesperson Godfrey Nyabong says that they are to give the final figure for 2014 population census and the estimated number for

According to the provisional census results released in November 2014, Uganda’s population of 34.9 million had grown by 10.7 million from 24.2 million since the last census in 2002. Nyabongo says that they are to give several indicators in the final results including districts with the highest and lowest population, number of people in urban and rural areas and sex ratio, among others.

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the guest of honour at the releasing of the final census results at Serena hotel in Kampala.

UBOS to release results of 2014 National housing and population census

Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is in the final stages of releasing the results of 2014 National housing and population census with detailed indicators beyond the number of people that was released in the provisional results. The head of Communication and Cooperate Affairs at UBOS Mr. Geoffrey Nabongo while addressing Journalists at UBOS head office said the data will contain information right from the sub county level with different indicators.

He notes that the data so far put together will indicate issues related to Education, Health, Housing, and energy among others in order to see how the Country has progressed. Nabongo further says, the final results will also show the economic performance in the Country and how far it has progressed since the time when the census was conducted in 2014.

Uganda’s population has increased from 24 million in 2002 to 35 million people, according to provisional census results that were released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics in 2014.

Producer Price Index report records increases in prices

The producer price index report released by UBOS indicates that prices for manufactured goods in the country registered an increase of 11.5% with the main driving factor being increased prices of goods in other sectors as well as the depreciation of the local currency against the dollar. Breaking down the report, the principal stastician in charge of business and industry, Wiliam Anguyo states that among others month prices changes of the goods from the factories were standing at 0.4%.

Anguyo notes that goods like bricks, mattresses, cement among others registered consumer prices with processed foods increasing by 13.2%, sugar by 26.9%, processed coffee by 1.5%. The bureau confirms that consumers who went direct to factories to buy goods had to pay more by 11.7%

However, there was also a 4.8% increase in prices of construction goods which saw the increase in residential buildings prices by 6.9% attributing it to increased wage rates by 7.2%, cement by 4.1% among others with now the senior statistician Dick Wadada saying during the time of increased prices for construction goods, the country registered low construction works.

UBOS registers reduction in inflation

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics has registered a slight increase in Inflation for the first time in several months.

The latest figures put the inflation rate at 4.9 percent up from 4.5 percent in October 2012.

The Bureau blames the increase on the hike in food prices registering an increase of 7.5 percent compared to 4.4 percent.

For energy and fuel utilities it rose to 13.8 percent from 12.8 percent in the month ending November.

This upward trend reverts Bank of Uganda’s efforts to reduce inflation.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics Director for Macro Economics Chris Mukiza explains the implication of such a development.

UBOS appeals for funding to conduct Uganda population census

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics needs over 100 billion shillings to conduct the population census next year.

This was revealed by the bureau’s executive director John Male while appearing before the parliamentary committees on finance and national economy.

Male said that a supplementary budget of 25billion is needed in addition to the 7 billion for preparations ahead of the exercise.

He says that this money is also needed in time to avoid any hiccups during the exercise.

The Population census was supposed to take place last year but to postpone the exercise due to lack of funds.
