]]> The Judges in Uganda have asked Human rights defenders advocating for the abolition of the death penalty to petition Uganda Parliament to amend the law regarding death penalty rather than seeking the opinion of the Judges on this issue.

The Judges revealed this on Monday during a round table discussion held in Kampala on sentencing capital offences.

 The judges have told human rights defenders that it is wrong for the Judges to give their opinion on this matter.

The chief Justice of Uganda, Benjamin Odoki says currently, the majority of the people in Uganda still support the death penalty as punishment to the offenders.

He says convicts on death row should be given their punishment after three years as the constitution stipulates rather than keeping them beyond three years.
