Members of parliament from disaster hit areas have warned of a looming famine in areas affected by heavy rain.

The mps who included the mp for Dodoth north county Samson Lokeris, mp for Labwor county in Abim ditrict Micheal Ayepa and the woman mp for Bududa district Justine Khainza said that areas affected by drought and floods are likely to have serious starvation due to famine .

The mp for Dodoth East Samson Lokeris said that even people of Butaleja, Bulambuli , kaabong ,Abim ,kween and kapchorwa are at high risk of disease outbreak since most of the latrines are flooded and clean water is contaminated.

He asked government to provide adequate relief to affected communities and ensure that emergency disaster fund is established to provide house hold items and medical services and water treatment to the affected people.

The woman mp for Bududa Justine Khainza government should speed up the programme of resettling the people on mountains to lower land to avoid them being hit by landslide.

According to Uganda Red Cross society, 75 deaths have been confirmed and 307 people reported missing and 10,000 people displaced in Bududa district alone.
