The Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG) has urged the Uganda government to the increase funding to Uganda Local Governments to enable them continue to develop and implement projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people.

Uganda recently introduced Local Service Tax but Uganda Local governments continue to depend on the central government for almost 90 percent of their funding.

CSBAG says lack of adequate funding by the Uganda government to local governments makes them grapple with a number of challenges like shortage of staff and inability to effectively impliment their self-originated programs.

The Civil Society Advocacy group also called for transparency in the allocation of central government funds to reduce corruption which threatens proper implementation of government programs.

Uganda has over 90 districts which serve as local government administrative centers. Although they have helped take government services closer to the people, the increasing number of districts has strained the Uganda budget more because of increasing costs of administration.
