CAF U-23: Classy Egypt eliminate Uganda, qualify for the African Nations Championship

Egypt U-23 kept up the positive drive of their 2^nd leg qualifier match with a 2-1 victory over Uganda Kobs in the CAF U-23 Champions on Saturday in Mandela National stadium, Namboole.

Youngster Mahmoud Abdelmonem Abelmamid Soliman put the visitors on top with a brace before Kobs’ captain Farouk Miya scored consolation in the last 10 minutes of the game.

Yunus Sentamu had a better chance to level matters with the visitors but failed to convert a prime scoring chance.
Egypt qualifies for the CAF U-23 championship on aggregate score 6 -1. The Championships will be held in Senegal come September this year.

The Uganda Kobs face Egypt young Pharaohs in the return leg decider of the CAF U-23 championship and qualifiers in Senegal. The Kobs play Egypt on Saturday, 1^st August at Mandela National stadium Namboole

Kobs go into this game with two build up games; defeating villa 2-0 and succumbing to one all draw with Express

In the first leg Uganda lost to Egypt 4 -0, now needs 5 goals to qualify to the African U-23 championships in Senegal .

Kenyas U-23 throws in a towel giving Uganda Kobs qualification in Maputo Africa games

The Kenyans have applied the proverbial saying of ‘a burnt child dreads fire’ after communicating that they are unable to turn up for the second leg match in the U-23 tournament in Kampala according to the Kenya Football Limited Chief Executive, Joseph Agola.

The Uganda Kobs younger-stars were in high gear preparing to humiliate the Kenyans again on July 9 after beating them 5-1 before tens of thousands of their fans in Nairobi in the first leg on June 26.

The Kenyans withdraw from the league has given Uganda Kobs a soft landing in Maputo-Mozambique to represent Africa Zone V in this year’s All Africa Games due in September.

Kenya, which runs a budget about seven times greater than the Uganda’s budget say that the withdraw has been due to logistical hardships.

Professional players join the under 23 Uganda football team ahead of African qualifiers

Three professional players have joined the Under 23 National football team currently in residential training at Kavumba recreation grounds in Wakiso district in the preparation for all African qualifiers return league match against Kenya on 26^th of June 2011 in Nairobi.

They are all Vietnam based players, Sadum Juma, Moses Olaya and Geoffrey Kizito bringing the number of players in camp to 27.

Speaking to the press during the training, the assistance coach John Besiti Nsimbi says they expect to announce the squad on Friday that will travel for the game.

Nsimbi says they are happy with turn-up because all players are in good condition and optimistic of the victory.

He called on all Ugandans to support them because it encourages them knowing the public is behind them for success.

The team is expected to leave on the 25^th of June 2011 led by FUFA vice president Patrick Ogweru a board Kenya airways.

Uganda beats Congo Brazzaville1-0 in Olympic Qualifiers

The Uganda Under 19 side beat their Congo Brazaville counterparts 1-0 with a stopage time goal from substitute Karim Ndugwa.

The win gave the Uganda side an edge over Congo in the Olympic cup qualifiers.

Frank Video Anyau

The coach Frank Video Anyau said the result is good for Uganda because Uganda has survived without conceding an away goal, and will go into the return leg in Brazaville with a clear advantage.

The Congolese held their own for a long period at Nakivubo stadium and seemed physically stronger than the hosts.

The Uganda Kobs missed several chances especially in the 1^st half where the team had excellent ball distribution. But the finishing remained poor, and the Congolese looked set to get away from Kampala with a point only for Ndungwa to net home.

The Congolese Coach Eddie Hudanski said his young Red Devils had done a good job of containing the Uganda Kobs only to slip in the dying minutes of the game.

Hudanski says his team will work tougher on home soil to overcome the Uganda Kobs in order to stand a chance of being among the three teams to represent Africa in next year’s Olympic finals.
