]]> The East African member states are working on a common identification system that will help facilitate free movement of citizens within the East African Community region.

Free movement of persons is one of requirements of the East African Common Market Protocol that gets operational on July 1st 2010. The East African countries are Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Kenya.

Addressing the media in Kampala today, Uganda’s minister for East African Affairs and first Deputy Prime Minister, Eriya Kategaya said that this has been a worry in the region and is being worked upon extensively.

He however quickly adds that in the meantime, Ugandans should continue using the ordinary passports for travel within the region.

Kategaya also urges Ugandans to prepare to harness the advantages of the market ahead, to be able to identify the business as well as trade opportunities.
