UBOS to release results of 2014 National housing and population census

Uganda National Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is in the final stages of releasing the results of 2014 National housing and population census with detailed indicators beyond the number of people that was released in the provisional results. The head of Communication and Cooperate Affairs at UBOS Mr. Geoffrey Nabongo while addressing Journalists at UBOS head office said the data will contain information right from the sub county level with different indicators.

He notes that the data so far put together will indicate issues related to Education, Health, Housing, and energy among others in order to see how the Country has progressed. Nabongo further says, the final results will also show the economic performance in the Country and how far it has progressed since the time when the census was conducted in 2014.

Uganda’s population has increased from 24 million in 2002 to 35 million people, according to provisional census results that were released by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics in 2014.

Government guarantee 13 billion UNBS loan from NSSF

The government is in advanced stages to guarantee a loan of up to 13 billion shillings from the workers funds at the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to build a new Home for the Uganda national bureau of standards (UNBS) in Bweyogerere a city suburb in Kampala.

Officials from the national standards body say the delay in government guarantee has caused them higher costs of hiring office space in different parts of the country.

The officials lead by the Executive director Dr. Terry Kahuma told the members of parliament on trade and industry committee that some of the costs have been out going towards rent of the five different places within the city centre.

Uganda national bureau of standards finance and administration manager, Davis Ampwera told the MPs that following the acceptance of the loan request from the NSSF all they now awaits is government guarantee.

Uganda youth call for a National unemployment policy

The African Youth Development Program has appealed to the Uganda government to come up with a national youth policy to help fight unemployment in the country.

May youth from Makerere University remain unemployed

An official from the organization, Ahmed Hadji told journalists in Kampala that the policy will among other things help to ensure the proper management of the recent fund created by the government in the 2010/11 National budget.

The fund worth 2 billion shillings will allow Uganda Youth have access to low interest loans without security. The loans according to the government will help Uganda youth set up income generating projects which reduces the problem of unemployment.

Hadji says that apart from ensuring the proper management of the youth funds, the national youth policy is also a sustainable way of addressing the problem of unemployment in Uganda.

According to statistics from the Uganda National Bureau of statistics, the youth constitute over 60% of Uganda’s total population.
