Members of opposition are now free to start attending NRM closed door meetings if they so wish.

A source in NRM parliamentary caucus has intimated to us that the supporters of DP, FDC, UPC, JEEMA and PPP among other opposition party are free to go to Kyankwanzi when the president summons NRM cadres to go there.

Kampala Central MP, Medde Nsereko says that when NRM summons its cadres for meetings, they use public facilities so any member of the public can also go since the facilities used are owned by all citizens.

MP Nsereko is considered in NRM circles as an opposition element who contested for parliament on NRM ticket.

Things are getting worse for Uganda’s opposition politicians and followers every day that passes. At first the police halted them from holding political rallies at Kampala City Square grounds, as if that was not enough, the same police directed that any political gathering organised by the opposition has to first get clearance from Uganda Police.

In fact many members of opposition who have attended political gatherings that have not been cleared by Uganda police have ended up in jail or tortured.

The Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura has now instructed all opposition members intending to hold political rallies at Kalolo airstrip to first get clearance from the president’s office.

The MP for Masaka Central Mathias Mpuuga has confirmed that he has got a letter from Kayihura halting all political gatherings taking place at Kololo (Kampala) Airstrip unless the president’s office as cleared such functions.

Mpuuga however asks how the president’s office will clear a political rally that is going to expose the government’s wrongs.

Activists for Change (A4C) have called off their intended celebrations following a 2hr long consultative closed door meeting at their offices along Katonga Road in Kampala.

A4C was supposed to hold a rally this morning to celebrate the victories so far attained in North African countries, including Egypt, Tunisia and Lybia, in the fight to oust dictators.

The rally, earlier scheduled to take place at Clock tower play grounds, has been called off and shifted to next week on Friday.

Mpuuga explains that they shall use the same venue at the same time, citing thorough research on the impact of it, noting that they found it necessary to postpone the event.

He also says he is aiming at giving Police ample time to dialogue with them on issues of giving them protection rather that dispersing them.

Mpuuga says the police have no mandate of barring from holding a rally anywhere so long as their intentions are not bad.

The A4C was at the centre of organizing the notorious walk to work campaigns that rocked the country early this year over the high cost of living.

The Opposition in Parliament has vowed not to bow to pressure from President Yoweri Museveni to go slow on his efforts to give away Mabira Forest.

Last week, President Museveni announced that he was planning to give away 7,100 hectares of the forest to Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited.

On Tuesday, President Museveni, while meeting Kampala City Traders and Kwagalana Group at State House, Entebbe, is quoted to have said that he is ready for war on sugar.

Speaking to the media today, Kitgum Woman MP, Beatrice Anywar, as well as Rubaga South MP, Ken Lukyamuzi said the threats by the President will not stop them from mobilizing Ugandans to demonstrate over the giveaway.

Anywar says the Inspector General of Government should probe government’s dealings with Mehta group, the owners of SCOUL.

Lukyamuzi, on the other hand, said government should look for alternative land for Mehta elsewhere.

Police yesterday fired teargas to disperse a crowd that had gathered in Nyendo, Masaka where FDC President, Rtd. Col Kizza Besigye and other opposition leaders addressed them.

Speaking to the media at Parliament today, A4C coordinator and Masaka Municipality MP, Matthias Mpuuga criticized the police for using unwarranted force against innocent civilians.

The police yesterday violently dispersed an opposition rally in Nyendo Masaka meant to launch the second phase of the walk to work protests.

Security Minister Muruli Mukasa earlier on Thursday issued a stern warning against the opposition not to hold the protests saying they will disrupt trade and peace in different parts of Uganda.

Mpuuga however says that the opposition will continue to hold the protests until government responds to the cries of the population to work on rising cost of living in the country.

Opposition MPS have threatened to move a motion on the floor of Parliament to Censure the Deputy Speaker Hon Jacob Oulanyah for attending the retreat of NRM although he belongs to the ruling party which is against the Rules of Procedure that Govern Parliament.

Addressing a press Conference at Parliament the Leader of Opposition Hon Nathan Nandala Mafabi said Mr. Oulanyah is expected to be impartial and should never participate in partisan political events saying he must resign his seat or face censure.

Flanked by Opposition Shadow Ministers, Aruu County MP Samuel Odonga Otto said the act by the Deputy Speaker to attend Partisan activities reminds Ugandans when he speared headed the removal of the Presidential term limits in the 7th Parliament. He said Hon Oulanyah is warming to spearhead another task of President Museveni suggestion to change the constitution seeking to remove constitutional bail for rioters, economic saboteurs, rapists and murders which many Ugandans are opposed to.

Meanwhile the Deputy Speaker in his response distanced himself from the allegations raised by the Opposition saying the tour was not political because it was about empowerment of mps by farmers.  He says that the message was very clear and therefore there was nothing that was going to compromise his integrity.

The opposition has attacked president Museveni over the Rwakitura NRM retreat saying that its misuse of public resources.

Addressing journalists at parliament the leader of the opposition Nandala Mafabi said that such acts are the reason behind the collapsing economy

He also revealed that amongst all the president’s the country has had, Museveni leads on abusing of the public resources saying that he gets money from banks of Uganda  and uses  it  for selfish needs.

He also said that he has turned statehouse into party headquarters where all party activities are held and yet party activities should not be funded by the public funds.

Mafabi however says that the reason for that caucus is for the MPs to agree on passing the bail bill which they said might be targeting the opposition to be locked behind bars for six months a move that he said will bring them down.

The three day NRM meeting which started last week ends today at state house Entebbe.

A group of concerned citizens from different parts of the country have petitioned the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga demanding an official apology to the people of Uganda by the leader of opposition and all opposition members of parliament who walked out in the protest during 7th June state of nation address by president M7.

Through their leader Denis Twahika these concerned citizens from Bushenyi, Amuria, Nebbi among other parts  say that the apology  should be  done within the period of  only fourteen days if not done they will petition the constitutional  court of Uganda for the interpretation whether the action they  did undermined some constitutional provisions .

The concerned citizens say that it was wrong for the opposition MPS to walk out on the president since by the virtue of the Oath of allegiance taken by all MPs, Mps have a duty to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the republic of Uganda and to preserve, protect and defend the constitution and uphold the law and act on all occasions in accordance with the public trust placed in them.

Nadala Mafabi, leader of opposition in Parliament

They also reiterated that the head of state was performing  his constitutional duty as mandated on article 101 section 1and 2 of the constitution of Uganda adding that the  7th June walk out protest by opposition members expressed the sign of disrespecting  the president.

Mean while Kadaga applauded the citizens for their concern and promised to forward the petition to the relevant committee of rules, privilege and discipline.

The opposition MPS on 7th June state of nation address by president M7 walked out when the president was trying to tell mps on how he is committed to fight corruption.
