Uganda outspoken women rights activist, Miria  Matembe has defended ministers who were sleeping when the Uganda president Yoweri Museveni was delivering his State of the Nation Address.

Prime Minister Apollo Nsibambi also slept

Prime Minister Apollo Nsibambi also slept

This comes after press reports recently revealed published pictures of some ministers that including the Uganda Prime Minister Prof. Apollo Nsibambi sleeping while the president was delivering the speech.

Matembe who is also the Former Minster of Ethics and Integrity and Mbarara district women Member of Parliament told the press in Kampala today that the ministers were right to sleep because the president’s speech was too long.

She added that she wasn’t surprised by the sleeping ministers because the president bored them with his same old things.

Matembe also indicated that a few years ago the president appealed to Ugandans to vote for people to Parliament regardless of whether they sleep in parliament or not provided they wake up to vote for the National Resistance Movement.

She says the president’s remark shows that Uganda leaders followed the president’s appeal and Museveni should not get irritated by the sleeping ministers.

Members of Parliament on the opposition are pessimistic about the State of the Nation Address that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will deliver on Wednesday.

Hon. Christopher Kibanzanga

The MP for Busongora South in Kasese district, Christopher Kibazanga told Ultimate Media that Wednesday’s State of the Nation Address will be less similar to the State of the Nation addresses in the past few years which have been littered with so many promises yet with little or nothing delivered after the addresses.

Kibazanga says for instance in recent years the president promised to tremendously improve the state of roads in the country, rid this country of pot-holes but today there is no remarkable improvement in the state of the roads in the country.

He says just last year the president committed himself to fight corruption in his address to the nation but now the year has passed and still there is no comprehensive effort that the government has shown to fight corruption in Uganda.

The Chief Whip of the opposition Kassiano Wadri says he has no faith in the president’s address because he doesn’t hope that the president will solve the country’s political.

Wadri says if important questions are left unanswered in the president’s address to the nation, then his address to the nation will not be worth its salt
