EC Chief - Badru Kigundu

The chairperson of EC, Eng. Badru Kiggundu says the commission kicked off the exercise on May 3rd to June 14th, 2010.

The ongoing national voters’ registration exercise conducted in different parts of Uganda is intended to accommodate new eligible voters and those who wish to transfer to other voting locations.

EC is fully in charge of compiling, maintaining and updating of the national voters register ahead of 2011 general elections.

Kiggundu told journalists in Kampala today morning that all Ugandans aged 18 years and above and not yet registered qualify to register as voters for 2011 elections.

He also says the ongoing national voters’ registration exercise is free of charge and voluntary. Kiggundu says the requirements for registration include full names, place of origin, date of birth, residence, marital status, citizenship, parents names, voting locations, and passport in case it is available.

The Electoral Commission has also called upon Ugandans to register in order to vote, nominate candidates, be nominated and support the candidates of their choice.
