It seems the long suffering Uganda opposition leaders and members who have suffered untold looting, harassment and torture from rapacious Ugandan leaders are now fighting back by mobilizing Ugandans and working with the international community such as England and USA to aggressively fight the Uganda National Resistance Movement officials who have reportedly stolen wealthy. Some of the Uganda cabinet ministers who are suspected to have stolen the country’s funds includes Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, Foreign Affairs minister, Sam Kutesa and ruling party chief whip, John Nasasira among others.

Col. Kiiza Besigye, the president General of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) says that opposition members want to make it an increasingly high risk for government officials in Uganda to embezzle public funds. President Museveni all along has been seen by many people as shielding thieving government officials.

Besigye alleges that some officials in Uganda government are dirtiest politicians and computer hackers who can break into electronic vaults and steal the country’s resources. He says that Ugandans no longer want to be grievously robbed by the thieving Uganda government officials.

Human Rights Network – Uganda (HURINET – U) and Uganda Coalition on International Criminal Court (UCICC) have vowed to arrest the President of Sudan if he dares land in Uganda to attend the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region heads of States summit on 15th December.
The two CSOs say they have been dismayed by the remarks made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Okello Oryem who publicly stated that Uganda has invited President Bashir to attend the conference and have no reason to cause an embarrassment by arresting him.

According to the CSOs Uganda is a state party to the Rome Statute of International Criminal Court and has domesticated the Rome Statute of ICC. It therefore has an obligation to arrest and surrender all persons whose warrants of arrest have been issued.

Addressing the press in Kampala, HURINET boss, Mohammed Ndifuna said inviting an international criminal suspect to Uganda not only betrays the fight against impunity which Uganda has for long championed but also betrays concerns and interests of victims of the most heinous
crimes both in Uganda and Dafur.

He calls on Uganda to revoke Bashir’s invitation or arrest and surrender him to ICC in an unfortunate event that he attends the summit.

According to Ndifuna, a number of Human Rights Organizations have already started securing a joint alternative domestic arrest warrant against Bashir incase Uganda fails to arrest him just like the Kenyan court.

President Bashir who is among the Great Lakes presidents invited to attend the summit due on 15th and 16th this month in Uganda was the first head of state to be indicted by the ICC, which accuses him of genocide and war crimes in Darfur.

Approximately 2.7 million people have fled their homes since the conflict began in Darfur in 2003, and the UN figures indicate that 300,000 people have died as a result of the unending conflict.

President Bashir says the conflict has killed about 12,000 people but that the number of the dead has been exaggerated for political reasons.

It is like every staff at the Red Pepper made buying a new car by the end of the year his/her year’s final resolution. With a month and so weeks remaining to close the year 2011, most of the workers are busy selling off their old cars and rushing to acquire new ones.

In the last two weeks alone, Red Peppers car parking in Namanve on Kampala Jinja road has seen an addition eleven cars.

The company’s editor Bob Tumwesigye has bought an Audi while Red Pepper’s crime reporter, Stanly Ndawula has bought a Mercedes Benz. Most of the cars the red pepper staff has bought is in the Toyota family.

What sounds laughable but could be true is that even some cleaners and get keepers at the Red Pepper also vow to buy cars. You see the Red Pepper Publications has a habit of guaranteeing its workers in the banks to get loan.

Pressure group Activists for Change have vowed to continue with their activities until Government finds solutions to people’s grievances.

The A4C coordinator Mathias Mpuuga says that apart from the walk to work campaigns, they will continue several activities including sensitising the public about ways of forcing the Government to find possible solutions to the country’s problems.

The development comes at a time when 3 members of the forum are in custody in Luzira over their walk to work on charges of treason.

Mpuuga says they will not retreat until there is an achievement.

He urges the public to be optimistic instead of losing hope and push harder to change the country’s situation economically.

The current country’s inflationary rating today stands at 30% as by October in records issues by the Bureau of Statistics.
