The Japanese practice of ‘forest bathing’ – which involves walking through a forest at a gentle pace for two hours or more – is said to relieve anxiety.

If that’s the case, then starring at these amazing pictures of woodland scenes in England and Wales might get you half way there.

They are all category winners and shortlisted pictures from past Landscape Photographer of the Year competitions.

This year’s contest is now accepting entries, until July 7. And so conversely, for would-be entrants, looking at these pictures might actually raise stress levels, because they show how tough the competition is likely to be.

Either way, they’re captivating.

Scientists claim to have effectively reversed the menopause by ‘rejuvenating’ women’s ovaries.

The Greek team says the technique enabled women to release eggs and re-start their periods, according to an article published by the Daily Mail.

One woman began menstruating even after a five-year hiatus, New Scientist reports.

‘[The treatment] offers a window of hope that menopausal women will be able to get pregnant using their own genetic material,’ Konstantinos Sfakianoudis, a gynaecologist at the Greek fertility clinic Genesis Athens, told the magazine.

The Greek team say the technique enabled women to release eggs and re-start their periods.

The new technique involves platelet-rich plasma (PRP) – a concentrated mix of substances in the blood that help cells grow – and may stimulate tissue regeneration.

Dr Sfakianoudis and his team found PRP also seems to rejuvenate older ovaries.

When they injected it into the ovaries of menopausal women, they claim it restarted their menstrual cycles, and enabled them to collect and fertilise the eggs that were released.

He told New Scientist: ‘I had a patient whose menopause had established five years ago, at the age of 40.

‘Six months after the team injected PRP into her ovaries, she experienced her first period since menopause.’

To date, his team has collected three eggs from the patient – two which have been successfully fertilised two using her husband’s sperm.

Once there are three, they will be implanted into her womb. Until then, the other two remain on ice.

The technique can be manipulated in other ways, too.

After injecting PRP into the uteruses of six women who had had multiple miscarriages and failed IVF attempts, three became pregnant through IVF – and are now in their second trimester.

If the treatment continues to show promise, it could potentially allow older women and those who have suffered premature menopause to conceive.

‘It is potentially quite exciting,” says Roger Sturmey at Hull York Medical School in the UK. “But it also opens up ethical questions over what the upper age limit of mothers should be.’

If the treatment continues to show promise, it could potentially allow older women and those who have suffered premature menopause to conceive.

If the treatment continues to show promise, it could potentially allow older women and those who have suffered premature menopause to conceive.

Most women are born with an average of two million eggs, but every month, they lose up to 1,500 eggs.

By the time she is 30, the average woman has 70,000 eggs remaining, which drops to 30,000 when she is 35 and 25,000 when she is 37.5.
Figures released last week revealed the fertility rate for women aged 40 and over has risen above that for the under-20s for the first time since 1947.

The report, from the Office for National Statistics for England and Wales, found there were 15.2 live births per 1,000 women aged 40 and over in 2015.

This is compared to 14.5 for those aged under 20.

In 1981, the rate was 4.9 for women aged 40 and over compared to 28.1 for women under 20.

Meanwhile other women experience the agony of premature menopause.

In the UK, the average age of menopause is 51, and comes when a woman’s natural supply of oestrogen dwindles and her ovaries run out of eggs.

But while most women first experience menopause symptoms in their late 40s and early 50s, a lot of women do get them much earlier.

One study estimated that as many as one in 20 women goes through early menopause.

If a woman is under 40, it’s called premature menopause; for those between 40 and 45, it’s referred to as early-onset menopause.

HOW THE TECHNIQUE WORKS

The new treatment pioneered by the Greek scientists involves platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

This is a concentrated mix of substances in the blood that help cells grow – and may stimulate tissue regeneration.

Dr Sfakianoudis and his team found PRP also seems to rejuvenate older ovaries.

Portugal managed to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Euro 2016 after defeating Poland in the penalty shoot-out.

The 90 minutes ended with both the teams level on 1-1, Lewandowski scoring in the 2nd minute for the Polish and Renato Sanches equalising for the Portuguese in the 33rd minute.

The game was even level after extra time and it had to be settled in a penalty shoot-out.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo led the team in the penalties as Rui Patricio saved Jakub Blaszczykowski’s shot and Ricardo Quaresma scored the deciding penalty for Portugal to give his team a 5-3 win.

The star man was not the usual suspect-Cristiano Ronaldo but rather 18-year-old Renato Sanches who was starting his first game for Portugal.

Sanches scored with a spectacular shot from distance to cancel out Robert Lewandowskis early goal for Poland, and then converted his penalty in the shoot-out.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos was pleased by the performance of the teenager stressing that Sanches’ task was to change things.

“Things weren’t going our way and I called Renato to change something. and we were lucky enough to have him score,” Santos said.

“He played a great game. He is still growing and has a lot to offer. He will be a better player in the future.” He added.

Sanches became the youngest player to score in a knockout round at the continental competition at 18 years and 316 days old.

Portugal reached the semifinals of the football tournament without winning any of their matches in regular time while Poland saw their luck of winning a penalty shoot-out in the round-of-16 run out.

Portugal will play the winner between Belgium or Wales in Lyon on July 6.

Australia overcame rivals New Zealand 58-55 to win their 11th title in front of netball record crowd of 16,849 at Allphones Arena.

The Silver Ferns had come into the final unbeaten after a shock win over Australia in the group stages, but a nine-goal deficit from the first quarter left New Zealand unable to catch the Commonwealth champions.

Australian goal attack Natalie Medhurst stressed how it was their plan to hit New Zealand hard and exert pressure from start to win the game;

“We really wanted to set it up in that first quarter and intensity was what we addressed. We really needed to hit them hard and really put that pressure on them from the start,” said Medhurst.

Australia now holds the Big Two titles, the Commonwealth Games and World Cup, concurrently, for the first time since 1998/99. Australia Coach Lisa Alexander has been reappointed for another four years after guiding the Australian diamonds to the 2015 Netball world cup trophy.

New Zealand coach Wai Taumaunu had earlier indicated that a World Cup final is totally different from a Test match because you can’t wake up the next day and play it all over again. Taumaunu though failed to guide the Silver Ferns to the victory and will have to wait for the Liverpool 2019 Netball World cup.

Meanwhile England beat Jamaica 66-44 to take bronze as they finished third in the Netball World Cup.

Wales ended the competition in seventh after winning their play-off 64-41 against Uganda to claim their best finish at a World Cup since 1991 – when it was also hosted in Sydney.

Scotland ended the tournament 12th after losing their 11th-place play-off 51-41 against Fiji.

South Africa narrowly beat Malawi 48-46 to secure fifth spot, while Trinidad and Tobago ended ninth after beating Samoa 64-51.

Meanwhile Barbados ended 13th with a 53-38 win over Zambia and Sri Lanka finished last after losing 59-32 to Singapore.

Both sides were undefeated from their earlier two group D games with the she cranes having collected an incredible 74-38 points in the victory against Zambia on day one and 61-40 over Fiji in the later fixture as Wales recorded victories against the same opposition.
