In 2005, a 20 plus year-old woman identified as only Fatumah was paid four million Uganda shillings to carry a pregnancy for another woman in Kampala (names withheld).  Fatumah delivered two health babies at a go and immediately handed the babies over to the woman who had paid her to nurse the babies.

The mothers hired to carry the pregnancies are not allowed to see the babies they produce. The women who carry pregnancies for other women are called surrogate mothers.

Dr. Sali, one of the prominent doctors in Kampala says that a surrogate mother is a woman who agrees on contract to bear a child for another woman who is childless. The surrogate mothers are usually prepared mentally and psychologically to give birth to other women’s children.

Most surrogate cases in Uganda are mostly registered at the Women’s International Hospital in Kampala.

A young couple moved into a new neighborhood.
The next morning while they were eating breakfast, the young woman watched her neighbor hanging wash outside.

“That laundry is not very clean,” she said.

”She doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.”

Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband,

“Look, she has learned how to wash correctly.I wonder who taught her this.”

The husband said, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.”

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others may depend on the purity of the window through which we look.

Former Kampala city associate Bad Black doesn’t stop to amuse. The day was Thursday and the venue was Luzira prison. A team of her associates had gone to pay her a visit. The prison authorities after checks permitted Bad Black’s visitors to check on her for a few minutes. Bad Back looked happy to see her visitors who were led by her relatives and close friends.
But during the conversations Bad Black told them that she was so disappointed at Luzira because there is a lady who displeased her sometime back now stays with her in the prison cell. Bad Black says that she is so mad about this and that she cries bitterly over her presence in the same cell with her. Bad Black says that the said woman was once a close friend of hers but they later separated after the woman walked away with Black’s former boyfriend.
Luckily for Bad Black, she got the white man whose money later brought her problems which made her imprisoned for four years.
The woman who disappointed Bad Black went into bad deals and surprisingly they now stay in the same cell at Luzira prison. Bad Black says that whenever she wants to talk or whispers to anybody the woman who disappointed her will be the one to listen or to look on.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) regulations and guidelines provide that no woman or foetus or baby should die or be harmed by pregnancy or birth.

The WHO urges world governments to work for reduction of mortality rates to half of the 2500 levels by the year 2015.

But in this article our major factor is on the purposes of screening in reproductive health services.

So we have outlined these purposes for you bellow: Screen for HIV/AIDS/STDs, monitor progress of pregnancy, gather baseline information on the health status of the woman for future reproductive reference, establish nutritional status of a women preconception during pregnancy and post partum and identify reproductive and related problems.

As a precaution measures, doctors put women with multiple pregnancy to bed rest in order to prevent early dilation of the cervix.
Women should also avoid strenuous activities during pregnancy, infections like yeast and bacterial vaginosis should be managed quickly to avoid pre-mature labour.
Treating symptoms of a vaginal infection if necessary can help to diminish the risk of pre-mature rupture of the membranes. Keeping your antenatal appointments can also help in monitoring of the pregnancy. Pre-term labour is defined as regular contractions and dilation of the cervix before the 37th week of pregnancy.
It can be induced by a health care provider due to pregnancy complication or it could happen spontaneously. Pre-term labour is caused by multiple pregnancies. This is because when a woman is carrying a multiple pregnancy, her uterus expands more than usual and it may exert pressure on the cervix to open earlier than usual infections.

A court in Uganda has forced a man to marry a woman, who claims she has feelings for him. Ms Catherine Kalembe is the one who dragged Mr. Emma Mutaka to court seeking court orders to marry him.

The Chief magistrate of Iganga court, ms Susan Kanyange on hearing this case gave Mutaka up to November 19th, 2012 to marry this woman or to pay fine for failure to marry her.

The woman also told the magistrate that she doesn’t want to hear stories that the man doesn’t have money to marry her.

Many lawyers and opinion leaders in Uganda, Africa and of course across the globe have described this case as “strange” and the first of its kind in Africa.  Gerald Lumbuye Nsubuga, the LC3 chairperson of Makindye Sabagabo wonders how can a woman develop feelings for a man and she drags him to court seeking forceful marriage and the court accepts her demands.

We have also learnt that the man has a small income while the woman is having a juicy job in one of the organisations in Uganda.

In her submission to the Iganga Chief Magistrate, Ms Kalembe told court that she has been requesting this man to marry her since December 17, 2011.

Ms Nakalembe says that she sees many men but her feelings are on Mr. Mutaka. Kalembe’s lawyer says that since December 2011 his client has suffered mental anguish and torture, lost chances to marry and suffered injured feelings and shame in community because of Mutaka’s refusal to marry her. Mr Mutaka in his defence told the court that he is surprised by this strange suit.
