Red Cross Volunteers are engaged in youth programmes, first aid, ambulance services, mountain rescue, telephone help-lines, disaster management, support for refuges and internally displaced people, health campaigns, advocacy and a myriad of other services with the aim of improving the lives of the vulnerable in communities.

Volunteer work is different from paid work. Volunteering has it’s own unique qualities:

  • Volunteers have a strong personal motivation
  • Volunteers work part-time

Most people only volunteer a few hours each week. Therefore, volunteering can be combined with any occupation and can continue for many years.

  • Red Cross Volunteers are local

They are part of the community. Volunteers know the needs and resources in the community, because they are already there.

Kasubi tombs fire report has now leaked to the press. Many groups of people and institutions like Buganda Kingdom have been demanding that the Uganda government releases the report on the Kasubi fire. The fire gutted Kasubi tombs in March 2009.

The report whose details have leaked to the press was completed in March 16, 2011. It was done by the commission which was presided over by Justice Stephen George Engwau and was handed over to the government of Uganda.

The report shows that Kasubi fire was work of an arsonist. It shows that an arm (we have not disclosed in this report) used some people who know Kasubi tombs well to torch it.

The same report also accuses Buganda kingdom of having failed to guard the tombs against the activities of the arsonists. However a source in government has told our informers that the government is not ready to release the report because its findings are too controversial to both Buganda kingdom and the government of Uganda.
