The Federation of Uganda Employers Executive Director Rosemary Ssenabulya and the president HR Excellence Awards, Patrick Ngolobe revealed that in a bid to improve on the county’s working environment in the country’s labour force, the Federation together with HR Excellence Award has launched the search for the nation’s best company, organization and worker as well as parastatal.

Speaking at the launch of the award today in Kampala, Rosemary revealed that the awards are geared at improving the working environment and work skills within Ugandan workers and employers as they showcase working talent among Uganda’s working labour force.

The dual noted that in the search for the best human resource personnel, they are also focusing on a joint survey that will target people and culture management practices with the aim of recognizing and celebrating human resource talent and great business practices in both multinational and local companies in the country.

Among the criteria to follow is the willingness for the employer and company to cater for the health of its workers, remuneration system, diversity, capacity to equip workers with better and new work skills, among other requirements. The awards are expected to be given out early December this year.

The Danish came to Uganda as investors but the workers in one of their companies have petitioned the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to help them to recover their pension savings allegedly misused by the Danish investors.

The workers at Bright Chicks (U) Ltd, a company owned by the Danish, wrote to the deputy managing director of NSSF, Geraldine Ssali, that the Danish investors swindle their savings.

Bright Chicks Uganda Ltd is one of the leading chicken processing firms in Uganda. The workers allege that the Danish investors had been fleecing their money since 2007.

The Ugandan laws provide that companies and factories are supposed to deduct 5% of their worker’s salary and contribute 10% for every worker totaling to 15% and remit it to NSSF.

The incident happened at Kazinga zone in Bweyogerere a Kampala suburb.

According to an eyewitness, Simon Ikara, a gas cylinder exploded burning the bakery to ashes.

Reports also indicate that the owner of the bakery was warned about the poor status of bakery and machines used but all in vain.

The police have already started investigations into the matter.

The Police commander Kiira-Road Police station Robert Walugembe says the suspect has not yet escaped from the country as reports indicate.

He says police is still hunting for him and he is still in hiding within the country.

This morning reports indicated that Kananura escaped out of the country and is hiding in Nairobi.

Desh Kananura the proprietor of Panamera Bar located at Naguru on Sunday last week allegedly beat up one of his workers, Badru Katerega to death over 30, 000, shillings which he had reportedly received from one of the customers as a tip.

The DPC says three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder, as the police continuous with the investigations.

We have been told that NBS TV has offered her five millionUgandashillings compared to two million shillings Dembe FM has been offering to her. It also seems that Mawadri is becoming a star in quitting jobs. A few months back Mawadri resigned from Top Radio for Dembe FM.

Dembe FM is also experiencing an exodus of workers. We hear that one of their other workers, Isaac Katende is preparing to cross over to Beat FM. Efforts to get a comment from the management of Dembe FM were futile.
