Teachers in talks with Ministries of Education, Finance and Public Service over salary demands

Talks have started between rioting teachers under UNATU and key government ministries over salary increment demanded by the teachers recently.

The teachers according to sources privy to the talks have been holding meetings with the technical teams from ministries of public service, finance and education over their grievances.

Teachers went on strike last month demanding an 100% salary increase that will see teachers earning at least 400,000 shillings per month.

Museveni two weeks ago directed these ministries to meet teachers to reach a negotiated settlement of their grievances after which they report to him on August 28, 2011.

Asked whether there has been an agreed position on salary increment, the sources told us that so far no progress has been made in this direction but talks continue before a final resolution is made.
