Trounced NRM MPs in the 2016 elections now want EAC legislative seats

As the term of office for the Members of Parliament representing Uganda at the East African Legislative Assembly comes to an end, many new aspiring candidates are fighting for seats in to join the assembly and the former MPs have recently been seen trying to out compete each other.
The number of persons expressing interest for the seats is reaching 50 and more are expected as the outgoing MP’s term expires in June 2017.

Some of those who have already showed interest include the former Minister for Internal Affairs, Rose Akol, former Kibuku district woman MP, Sarah Mwebaze, former Ntenjeru South MP,Patrick Nsanja, former MP Kigulu South Miltom Muwuma,former Woman MP for  Manafwa district, Sarah Netalisire Kayagi ,former MP for Mbarara Municipality, Merdad Bitekyerezo,former MP for Kakuto County, Mathius Kasamba, former MP for for Sheema district Rose Mary Nyakikongolo,former MP for Butambala  district, Marriam Nalubega.
Others include: Paul Musamali who works in the office of the Chief Whip, former guild speaker of Makerere University, Dennis Adimenap, Regional Coordinator Women Plus Africa, Emmanuel Matsyetsye, former Youth candidate for Western region, Andrew Musiime and Dr.Abdul Byakatonda.

The incumbents who are seeking re-election include: DP’s Vice President, Fred Mukasa Mbidde, UPC member Chris Opoka and Suzan Nakawuki.
The aspiring candidates for EALA are now following the MPs in the 10th Parliament and in their constituencies to catch their eye so as at the time of voting are voted for.
The six NRM members currently in EALA are serving their last term having been in this regional legislative body for two terms and are barred by the East African Community treaty to contest again.
