The best practices were developed jointly by the Uganda communication commission, the broadcast council together with national association of broadcasters.

The guidelines come at a time when media practitioners are facing hard times with security operatives especially during live coverage of demonstrations in the country.

Peter Kababe from Kfm radio was one of the facilitator who called and emphasized adherence to the basic principles of journalism and also urged the state to respect and protect the practitioners.

Speaking on behalf of the national Association of broadcasters Kim Kirisa noted that regulation on industries is crucial for smooth running calling for partnership with regulatory bodies.

The executive director Uganda communication commission Engineer Godfrey Mutabazi noted, although Uganda is diverse broadcast industry, players have at times ignored the ruled that should guide operations.

Mutabazi says plans are under way to review the laws governing both the print and broadcast media to take into consideration emerging challenges.
