Uganda donates 270 million shillings to Haiti

Uganda has today donated over 270 million shillings to the people of Haiti who were devastated by strong earth quake on January 12th, 2010.

In donating this money to Haiti Uganda was fulfilling its pledge of committing 100,000 US dollars which is approximately 220 million shillings while the local corporate world and individuals have contributed the rest of the money.

Over three hundred thousand people were killed by the earth quake while over 1.2 million were adversely affected with many still displaced without shelter and food.

The Minister of Uganda for Foreign Affairs, Sam Kuteesa has handed over the cheque to the UN Resident Coordinator, Dr. Thiophane Nikyema in Kampala today, to forward it to the Haitian government.
