Uganda draws two billion response to handle Marburg outbreak

The ministry of health has developed a response plan of 1.85 billion shillings to be used for handling the deadly Marburg outbreak in Kabale district.

The disease has so far killed  5 people and five others are still admitted in different health facilities.

The ministry’s public relations officer Rukia Nakamatte says the supplementary budget is expected to be forwarded to ministry of finance. She says if approved, the money   will be used to purchase drugs and protective gears.

Meanwhile, over 123 people are closely being monitored in the three districts of Kabale,Ibanda and Rukungiri.

Nakamatte adds in Kampala they are still closely monitoring 26 people suspected to have had direct contacts with suspected Marburg patients.

The ministry continues to urge  the public to avoid public gatherings and direct contact with body fluids of people suffering from the disease.
