Uganda government asked to fight non-communicable diseases

Breast Cancer affects many women

The government of Uganda has been asked to increase its commitment to the fight against non-communicable diseases especially breast cancer.

Statistics indicate that 36 out of every 100,000 Ugandans were found with the cancer in 2009, with a current survival rate of 56 cases per 100 patients in developing countries.

The chairperson of Uganda women’s cancer support organization Specioza Kabwegyere says that at this rate, government and the civil society need to do more in increasing facilities to cater for the patients and advance prevention mechanisms.

She calls for more recruitment of experts to deal with the disease and provision of screening and treatment services in health centres.
