Uganda Journalists asked to pay to cover agriculture show

Journalists from Busoga are protesting by the decision reached by the organization of the Jinja source of the Nile agricultural show to charge them Ten thousand shillings (10000) to cover the show.

Trouble between the journalists and organizers of the agricultural show started last week after journalist were ordered to pay 10000 shillings in order to access the show grounds.

The journalist protested the move saying it’s in the public interest that they cover the agricultural show adding that the decision to ask them to pay before they can be allowed to cover the trade fare is aimed at blocking them from carrying out the work to inform the masses.
However several journalists have paid the money but decided not to cover the show and are planning to write to the chairman Uganda national farmers federation to express their dissatisfaction with the organizers of the show.

Journalists under the Busoga media network are also demanding for the resignation of their coordinator or else they quite the network. But the coordinator Moses Lucaza has denied the any wrong doing saying that he was also asked to pay the money by the organizers of the trade show.

The manager Jinja agriculture trade show jimmy Kitaka says the decision to charge the journalist was reached on in one of their meetings so as to regulate the number of reporters flocking the show grounds.
