Uganda opposition MP provokes people to demand more from government

The Rubaga North Member of Parliament in Kampala district, Betty Olive Kamya has appealed to the people of Uganda not to get tired of demanding the government for more government services other than peace and security.

He says that although the NRM government headed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has brought relative peace in the country, there is more need for better roads, hospitals and other income generating projects to ensure better livelihoods.

The MP who is also the leader of the recently formed Uganda Federal Alliance Political Party, joked that people should not always talk of only sleeping after over 24 years in leadership by the NRM government, referring to the general belief among Ugandans who vote the ruling NRM party on the basis of ensuring peace and security in the country.

Kamya appealed to Ugandan’s to use their votes in the coming 2011 General elections in Uganda to expose their displeasure at the government’s unfulfilled promises.

Although the NRM government has succeeded in ensuring relative peace in the Uganda after the defeat of the LRA in Northern Uganda and the ADF rebels in western Uganda, conflicts remain in some parts of the country especially Karamoja as a result of the rampant cattle smuggling.
