Uganda to destroy raised up graves

Ugandan citizens whose relatives died and their families built raised-up graves on the surface of the earth and inscribed on it religious verses from the Qur’an and the Bible have been told to demolish them.

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje says that Prophet Mohammed forbade building over graves, plastering graves, and putting writings upon them.

Mubajje says Muslims are not supposed to leave any elevated grave without levelling it.

He says that such a grave attracts peoples’ attention and the ignorant people will think that it is the grave of a ‘saint’ or a righteous, and they become attached to it. Mubajje says that Muslims are allowed to raise the grave only to the height of a finger joint.
