Uganda to establish teachers’ promotion scheme

The Government of Uganda is preparing to introduce a teachers’ scheme in the financial year 2012/13 in order to enable teachers get higher qualifications and consequently receive promotions.

This was reveled to the media today in Kampala by education and sports minister, Jessica Alupo who said that the move is one of the government’s interventions to address teachers’salary increment demands.

The MP for Kalungu East, Joseph Sewungu says that if the programme as introduced by the minister is implemented soon teachers would be full of smiles.

Alupo says that soon teachers with higher academic credentials will be put at higher salary scales than their colleagues with lower qualifications. She also says that the government plans to increase teachers’ salaries by 20%.
