Uganda to introduce new female condom

The ministry for health is in the final stages of introducing new female condoms on the Ugandan market.

According to the chairperson of the parliamentary committee on HIV/AIDS, Beatrice Rwakimaari, the new development comes after complaints were registered against female condoms where women were shunning them.

Addressing journalists at parliament, Rwakimaari says the women are shunning female condoms because they are not user friendly due to the noise they make during sexual intercourse and also being expensive to be afforded by a common woman.

She says as MPs, they have been advocating for females condoms because they do a lot in preventing HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancies and other diseases.

Rwakimaari however, warned the ministry that as it plans to replace the existing female condoms, it should ensure that the issue of material used in manufacturing these condoms and prices are both addressed saying even if they change the prices without changing the material, women will continue to shun them.
