Manufacturers and traders in Uganda have appealed to the government to take a stronger stand in fighting counterfeit products in the country.

The Spokesperson of Kampala City Traders Association, Issa Sekito says counterfeit products hinder fair competition for countries like Uganda.

He says substandard textile products are killing local industries and discouraging the growth of Trade in Uganda.

Sekito was speaking to journalists in Kampala today. He also calls on all Ugandans to protect the name of Uganda by striving to produce standard products.

Sekito appeals to the government to address the high cost of power, expensive capital and illicit trade, which he says undermines local producers and trade in general.
