Ugandan government ordered compensate family of late James Mugaru

The Uganda human rights commission has ordered the government of Uganda to pay 25 million shillings in compensation to the family of late James Mugaru.

Mugaru was shot by security operatives on March 27th 2004 at Kalekere in Budaka but died late at Mayo regional referral hospital where he was admitted.

His father 70 year old Wilson Kitunzi filed a complaint with Uganda human rights commission demanding for damages and compensation for the death of his son.

On Monday the commissioner for human rights commission ruled in favour of Kitunzi.

Wandagyab says there was ever whelming evidence that Mugaluzi right to life was cut short by the shooting which has perturbed his parents.

He ordered government to pay 25 million shillings to Wilson Kitunzi as a compensation for the death of his son. Wangadya says government is free Ms. Mariam Wangadya to appeal by the ruling in the high court if it is not satisfied with Uganda human rights commission’s ruling.

Rashid Kibuka represented the government of Uganda but did not comment on the ruling.
