The Ugandan government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the German government, together with Inter- Governmental Authority on Development IGAD for the Drought Resilience Initiative for Karamoja.

The Head of Division for East Africa in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development Dr. Ralf-Matthias Mohs ,reveals that about 48 billion Uganda shillings has been allocated to provide for the construction of drought resilience infrastructure and reduce the impact of food insecurity on Karamoja.

Signing on behalf of Uganda government, the Secretary to the treasury Keith Muhakanizi appreciated the move saying Karamoja is one of Uganda’s hard pressed areas in terms of food and infrastructural development due to delayed and low-level rainfalls.

Dr. Ralph says the initiative was designed to addressed issues of food security and  the structural lack of sustainable water harvesting capacity.
