Ugandans, Kenyans and Rwandanese to use same IDs

 

Ugandans, Kenyans and Rwandanese will use IDs as travel documents among Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda as well as use of EAC tourist visas to travel to Rwanda, Kenya ad Uganda. President Kenyata, Museveni and Kagame will launch IDs as travel documents among the three countries as well as use of EAC single tourist visa to travel to Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda on Thursday.

Other travel documents to be used in East Africa are student’s cards, and voter’s cards.

Flavia Salafina, director of Information, Education and Communication at the Ministry of EAC affairs, says that since the commencement of the use of IDs, over 49, 000 Rwandans have crossed borders using their identity cards, while 19,223 Ugandans and 6,500 Kenyans have crossed into Rwanda.

Burundi and Tanzania -the other EAC members have, however refused their citizens to travel around east Africa using IDs.
