The country director World Wide Fund for Nature David Duli has urged Ugandans and the government to increase the use of renewable energy sources to help check on the rampant environmental degradation in Uganda.

Speaking at the ceremony to mark the 7^th Ugandan earth hour at Serena Hotel in Kampala, David emphasized that the current sources of energy used by Ugandans are unfriendly to the environment and have in turn negatively affected the climate change in the country.

WWF also raises concern that very little is done by Ugandan communities to save the environment thus avert potential climate change calamities that may sometimes lead to loss of lives and property.

Over 96% of energy demand for Uganda comes from bio-mass which is reflected in the 6000 hectares of forest lost annually and which WWF believes can be stopped if better and improved energy sources are embraced by Ugandans.

Earth hour is a time when environmentalists come together to reflect and lay better strategies to save the environment in Uganda and across the globe.
