UPC President Olara Otunu

Otunu was meant to appear at the CID this morning, to explain comments he allegedly made about president Yoweri Museveni giving money to rebel leader Joseph Kony, but he instead sent his lawyer Elias Lukwago.

Lukwago has told CID deputy director Moses Sakira that Otunu could not appear today because he is busy with party engagements.

Lukwago also challenged the police to issue fresh summons and retract the earlier ones saying they do not constitute any criminal offence.

However police spokesperson Judith Nabakoba says, Otunu has defied police summons and that they are still waiting for him until the close of business today. She however does not state the next course of action incase Otunu does not appear at all.

According to the summons issued in Wednesday, Dr. Otunnu is being investigated over possible criminal defamation of the President.
