UPDF troops serving in Somalia narrate how Al Shabaab rebels killed their colleagues

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces serving under the African Union peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have narrated how Al Shabaab fighters have killed hundreds of Ugandan, Burundians and Kenyan soldiers in their hundreds.

A contigent of UPDF soldiers returned to Uganda on Monday and President Museveni sent another contingent to Somalia. One of the soldiers, who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of being imprisoned by UPDF, says sometimes they would be told to attack Al Shabaab bases when they are hungry and the rebels kill them. “Some of our commanders in UPDF had deals with Al Shabaab. They would sell our food to the rebels we were supposed to fight and for us we go hungry.

The UPDF returning troops have been replaced by contingent of soldiers under UGABAG13 commanded by Col. William Bainomugisha.
