Those who still think Democratic Party President General, Norbert Mao will join the Inter Party Coalition need to think again. Mao has already released his 2011 Presidential campaign badges and posters.
The youthful Mao whom supporters refer to as the Barrack Obama of Uganda will campaign under the slogan “We Believe” in Uganda’s general elections that are to be held in May 2011.
The Badges named “ Mao for President 2011” are being won by many DP supporters and Mao supporters as other opposition parties await who will be elected among them to represent the Inter Party Coalition to represent the opposition in a joint challenge against NRM Chairman and traditional flag bearer, President Yoweri Museveni.
FDC President Col. Dr. Kiza Besigye who is the favourite is facing challenge from UPC President Olara Otrunu, JEEMA flag bearer, Hussein Kyanjo and CP President John Ken Lukyamuzi in the election to determine who will be the joint opposition candidate in the 2011 effort to unseat the National Resistance Movement of Yoweri Museveni that has ruled Uganda since 1986.
Mao’s DP is still distancing itself from the IPC arguing that opposition political parties should compete on their own and only join together to beat Museveni should there be a re-run of the elections in 2011.
Dr. Abed Bwanika of the People’s Development Party and Jabeli Bidandi Sali of People’s Progressive Party have also already declared their candidature in the Presidential elections, with Bwanika the early bird in distributing his campaign posters and manifesto early 2010.
