We need curfew reviewed: Parliarment

Parliament has tasked Government to consider scrapping the 9:00pm-6:00am curfew hours aimed at curtailing movement of people as part of several measures to prevent the spread of Covid19.

The lawmakers led by Gilbert Olanya (Kilak County) argue that curfew should either be eased or scrapped because it is hurting the economy.

In March last year Government instituted a national lockdown including imposing curfew time to deter the spread of Covid19. Whereas motor vehicles are allowed to move up to 9:00pm, motorcycles are barred from any form of movement beyond 6:00 pm.

“The month of Ramadan is coming where we are expected to pray up to 10:00 pm, how are we going to fulfill this when the curfew is 9:00 pm.

It should either be reviewed or completely scrapped because it is very irrelevant,” said Latif Ssebagala (Kawempe North)

Silas Aogon (Kumi Municipality) warned that continued preserving of curfew is bleeding the economy to its knees which is unfair because other sections of the economy are working while others continue to suffer.
