Cross-border good transporters have called for fair COVID-19 test fees among East African Community (EAC) member states.
Byron Kinene the chairman of the Regional Lorry Drivers and Transporters Association said each member state is charging COVID-19 test fees differently.
He said this violates the very essence of regional integration and frustrates the movement of goods.
Kinene also said member states should regularly meet to review the set conditions for controlling the spread of COVID-19 and come up with favorable terms that will facilitate trade in the region.
William Busuulwa the chairman of Uganda National Transporters Alliance said the high COVID-19 test fees are still a challenge among drivers.
“Member states have the capacity to subsidies test fees for drivers but this has never been given its due attention,” he said.
Busuulwa said the 14 days given for the validity of the test certificate is too little compared to the time drivers spend in queues at the borders.
