The Forum for Women in Development has called upon the Ministry of Education to create a special desk to handle gender related issues.

FOWODE’s Programme Director, Julius Mukunda, made the call while presenting a research paper on Gender budgeting to the Social Services committee today.

Mukunda notes that in spite of government’s efforts to increase budgeting for women-related issues such as maternal health, there is no particular reference point where stakeholders can present pertinent gender issues.

He says that with such a unit established in the Ministry of Education, it will improve information flow and lobbying for gender funding will be made easier.
