The South Sudan rebels are planning an assault on the bases of UPDF and President Salva Kiir’s army bases in South Sudan. Last week the UPDF attempted to attack rebel camps but the attack turned out a boomrang on the Uganda troops as dozens of the UPDF soldiers were killed and others wounded.
The rebel success against UPDF and the South Sudan soldiers made president Kiir to sack his army chief of staff, Gen James Hoth Mai and the top military spy chief, Gen Paul Mach. Kiir replaced Gen. Mai with Gen Paul Malong while Gen Paul Mach was replaced with Gen Marial Nour Jok.
The rebels reportedly defeated UPDF and South Sudan government soldiers in Upper Nile and Jonglei states. The rebels further defeated UPDF troops in Mayom in Unity statee, Akuai, Beng in Jnglei and Rieu in Upper Nile. The South Sudan army (SPLA) spokesperson, Col Phillip Aguer confirmed the rebel attacks on UPDF camps and South Sudan government soldiers, but he hastened to add that the government soldiers are about to recapture Mayom in Unity State. According to sources in Dr. Riek Machar’s rebel camp, the rebels have got all the guns and man power needed to take on UPDF and South Sudan soldiers in Bor.
